Is there a hidden vin on 88-91 JDM crx's? I googled and it said on hondas the hidden vin is above the catalytic converter

A friend told me they didnt do that to old cars? can anyone confirm this?

 

Why do you want to know this? Do you have a jdm cr-x?

Yes I do. There is not one on the dash or door jam, there is only 1 on the engine and I cant pass a vin inspection with only 1 vin number.

 

then maybe its a fake and they only put that vin on to make it look jdm when its really not

 

Well I already bought it so it doesnt matter either way, but I cant register it as its failed the DEQ vin inspection and the DMV vin inspection. So I appear to be screwed

 

That car should have one stamped right in the firewall.....plus one in the door jam, plus one on the left hand side just above and behind the headlight. It sounds like your car has been seriously tampered with.

Also, jdm VIN numbers are much different than usdm ones, and have less digits

 

there is one on the firewall if i recall correctly. atleast on usdm vehicles this is the case

So there is none located on the bottom of it? The DMV guy said the police are going to have to lift it up and look at something because "there are hidden vins", but after watching border wars and how they strip cars apart looking for drugs I dont want my car to be in pieces. Not to mention I am honestly sick of failing these inspections considering I had to use a vacation day just to go to the DMV

 

can u post pics of the vin and also the spot where the vins should be? my guess Is youre car was converted to look like a legit jdm model and they eliminated all the other usdm vins so it would appear the firewall jdm vin was accurate.

 

I have an original shop manual for ef8/ef9...in the vin section it says there are many possible locations, i will list all of them...

firewall
rad support
dash
door jam
under the jack hold down in the spare tire well
inside the left hand B pillar
under the car, under the undercoating behind the post cat o2
under the car, under the undercoating above the gas tank

I honestly dont know which would apply to you but thats all i got, hope it helps

Also...word to the wise kid...vin tampering is not something to be advertising

 

dont mess with the vins!
