There is no VIN on a Japanese car. There is a serial number for the vehicle, but no VIN.

Fine, I'll spell it out for you:

T H E R E I S N O V I N O N A J A P A N E S E C A R .

They have a serial number, that is all. They do not have a 17-digit VIN like North America.

That's a North American VIN tag. It has information about where the vehicle was manufactured, how many doors it has, where it's sold, trim level, engine, chassis code, individual serial number, etc etc.

That is a Japanese serial plate. It's affixed to the radiator support. It identifies the type of vehicle, the region code, the chassis code, the serial number, and the trim.

Get it, chief? NO VIN.

hey remember when you typed

"It identifies the type of vehicle"

so IT being the number would make it A number to identify the vehicle

Just because a number identifies a vehicle does not mean it's a VIN.

That's like saying a license plate is a VIN because you can use it to look up the type of vehicle.

Aye.

Look at the engine code...

If it says something like B16A2 then it's not JDM, motors manufactured in Japan only have 4 letters, so it'll say B16A, you CANNOT have a number at the end of a JDM engine.

The VIN is on the block, to the left of the exhaust manifold, and down a bit (almost to the level of the transmission), there's a piece that has the engine code on it.

That'll at least verify that it's a JDM engine...or a JDM block at least.

Since JDM cars don't use VIN, you're pretty much **** outta luck for matching a VIN on the chassis with a VIN on the car. Though cars from Japan will have a sticker in the door jam, and it'll be in Japanese...

If you have a JDM car there shouldn't be any VIN numbers in any of the locations, the engine code shouldn't have a number at the end, there shouldn't be any drill marks on the firewall near/on the rivets, so on and so forth.

Other than that, you're pretty **** outta luck for matching the engine to the chassis and that they both came from Japan as far as I know .

the chasis and serial plate match
the car chasis came together
i dont know what you mean when you say its hard to match them

i dont have to match the engien to the chasis its a b16a i can make it pass smog
and theres another number below, not after, which is the engien serial number i jus have to make sure thats clean, how do i do that

then they attach a 3rd Vehicle identification number to the inside of my door which matches my current 2 vehicle Identifying numbers

you can call a lisence plate a license
you can call a vehical identification number a vin
a license is not a vin get your anology right

I'm just using your logic. It's a number which can identify a vehicle ....

All VINs are serial numbers but not all serial numbers are VINs.

my logic is that serial number is the one used to identify my vehicle, that number is my vehicles identification number

a license plate is issued and not all vehicles even come with license plates

Your logic sucks.

VIN is a North American standard.

Other countries use serial numbers or a translation of said serial number.

Your VIN and your engine's serial number wont match. Though some engines in the US were by law to be stamped with a copy of the vin.

JDM, EDM, and any other worldly motor does NOT have a VIN, it has a serial number or some other number which equates to one. It's not at ALL the same system used here in the states.

That's the difference, the VIN system here works differently than the serial system in Argentina, Japan, and France.

NO really like ek says
the VIN system here works differntly mainly to be able to see what company what branch, year and model so on so on
but the serial number on the vehicles in most other contries
is used to identify vehecles either way

of course my engines serial wont match the the vehicles vin
why would it?
