Default Coating AND wrapping?

Well we know keeping heat in = quicker spoiling and helps under hood temps. I was thinking of coating the manifold and downpipe I get and also wrapping it while putting a blanket on the turbo. Good idea? Anyone done this?

I'm surprised I've never seen a blanket on any builds here...

Together both work extremely well. There's no real detriment to using both pieces.

Most people here just don't think about wrapping unless they feel they're experiencing heat problems.

I did this on my old manifold,

as long as you dont care about looks, it works amazing.

but once I took the wrap off, all the coating was chipped and flaked off, and kinda stuck to the wrap.

so if you ever wanna have the "coated" look afterwards, your gonna hafto get it coated again because the heat that gets trapped in by the wrap totally rapes the coating.

I've always been a "every little bit counts" guy. So I'll be trying this. If anything to help with temps in summer with the half radiator.

Coating doesnt cost that much...wrapping will reduce engine bay temps. I coated my full race manifold...it's starting to flake off and it's only been 2 years. The coating doesn't do a whole lot honestly.

Ive used a couple Thermal Barrier Coatings from olycoatings.com. they worked great for me and kept the heat down. I dont know much about the spray can stuff as I dont think it holds up to the same temps...

That depends upon the coating. From my experience and recollection, the right coatings shouldn't be affected by the wrapping; but it depends upon how it was applied.

Using a blanket and the turbine coating is fine. The case may be different with wrapping and the coating

You havent looked to hard as far as the whole wrap job as here is mine... but i guess it is in the road race section. the only thing coated on mine is the turbo housing everything else is stainless.

I will be wrapping my ramhorn and putting a blanket on the turbo as my underhood temps are a little too high on my new set up. But in the past wrapping the header and downpipe made a big difference with my half radiator...

Here is the build thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/road-racing-autocross-time-attack-19/powerneedys-time-attack-build-2762721/

Just that wrapping and blanket alone runs much much cooler under hood temps. Everything around it isnt melting any more like the previous greddy setup... Oh and the best thing is my dip stick isnt ruined every time I come off the track lol.

Are you referring to me?

My turbo setup for 2010-2011

Got rid of the HKS filter for an AEM Dry filter. Not as restrictive

I actually tapped the water lines to the wastegate, and thanks to B&R for the refiting of the turbo water lines. (Sorry for bad pic)

I'm sure Powerneedy is fine. I've found no overheating issues, using OEM coolant with Redline water wetter. The bigger issue is making sure that oil isn't overheating.

good call. I wanted to give my shot at road racing once this year just to have fun and gain experience.

My manifold is jet coated, but would you recommend wrapping it as well then? Ill be wrapping my down pipe and dumptube for sure, and a turbo blanket as well.

what kind of oil cooler setup do you guys have?

Oh? I didn't know this was an issue. Would it still be an issue for a stock motor build?

BTW not wanting to take this thread off topic but could you give a quick overview of your new setup?

No its not an issue for a street strip car. What theyre referring to here is road racing and having the motor under stress for a great amount of time vs. 10-15 seconds at a time.
