93 ex temp rising
hey i got a 93ex civic. It has 197xxx original miles. Recently the temp started to rise. When you stop the temp rises; when you start driving, the temp goes back. I thought it was rad fan, but that works.
Before I start buying and installing parts(water pump, thermostat) I would like to know your oppinion.
Thanks!!

Thermostat - Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I belive you can start the motor with the cap is off and wait for it to reach temp and for the fan to come on. Once it reaches temp the thermostat should open up and the coolant should start to circulate through the radiator. I would aslo assume if this is happening that the water pump is doing its job.
Then again...I am an idiot
Headgasket - White smoke exiting the muffler. You can also pop the radiator cap when the motor is COLD and check for any black substance floating around.

I dont think any white smoke. I'll check. I'll check for black stuff floating around and "take cap off when cold" test
Thanks
I bought a 97 Civic EX, thinking the headgasket went out and it was overheating so I bought it for $1,000.
What I did was Take off the Radiator, unclip the top part, and cleaned out all the veins with the oil dip stick from an SUV and unclogged all the veins, than put cap back on clip it again and I haven't had it overheat since.
Like he said above me, check radiator for black blotches floating, thats signs of headgasket problem.
Just my .02 but go for the radiator fix, worked for me and I spent $10 on Radiator fluid.
