Default 99 Civic SIR - Electrical Power Loss

Hi Everyone,

Just looking for more things to check. Im currently at work but when I get home I will look at a few things. Here is the issue.

For the last couple weeks, when I drive my car I will be idling at a light and SOMETIMES I will lose electrical power it seems (Tach dies, stereo dies, dash lights die) I rev the engine and everything comes back alive, let it idle for a bit and its fine again and may not happen again that day.

It seems to be more frequent lately though, today I had to hold it at 1500rpms because as soon as I let it idle on its own it would lose power.

I plan to check the basics, belt tension, terminals, voltage on alternator and battery. Any other ideas? I have a spare battery I could swap in...

Its also very cold here currently around -25c.

Car has a stock B16a2, I think thye only mod would be exhaust, intake and a underdrive pulley(Which came with the car and I plan to remove once I find a stock one)

Thanks,

Thats what I was thinking as well.. I know the belt on the alternator is pretty grungy looking. I was hoping to avoid replacing it until I swapped crank pulleys.

5w30

Same as I normally run in my other civics here. Never have any real issues with cold starts or louder then normal ticking.

Sounds like a classic low idle problem. Any CEL codes? Have you cleaned the IACV (and FITV if you have one)?

No cel codes, idle is hovering around 900-100 when it idles normal which is 95% of the time. I turned it up a bit as when its REAL cold, when it first starts it has trouble running when its -35+

Havent cleaned the FITV/IACV but it doesnt seem to be the same as that, I've had that issue numerous times but it is something I will keep in mind to check as well.
