good street radial??
what is a good tire for the street and for drag racing? i am at about 400whp and i cant get traction with my falken falken azenis rt-615. i was looking into the mickey Thomson et streets but they only make 255 16. i am looking for 225 or 215. what do you guys think would be the best tire for my car?
thanks
thanks
It's impossible to tell without knowing what kind of car you have, which determines what size tire you need, which determines what's available in your size. But to answer your question, BFG and Nitto both make good drag radials that can be used on the street - as long as you don't mind spending a lot of money for tires that won't last you very long.
What a lot of folks do is they get an extra set (or pair) of wheels for the drag radials that they use only at the dragstrip, and then run street tires like the RE-11, XS, Star Spec, AD08, or R1R on the street where you don't need the ultimate traction. (All are slightly stickier than the Azenis, but if the Azenis isn't sticking for you, you'll need at least a drag radial for the dragstrip.)

at 400whp if you're drag racing you have to run slicks, not street tires, not drag radials, slicks. drag radials will work but you'll give up time compared to slicks. post this in the drag racing section and see what you get. the only benefit to DR's the ability to drive on the street. some DR's like the nittor 555R actually are good autocross tires...
i probably wouldn't believe someone saying that either but i've tried it

From what i've read, the 235 60 15 MT ET DR's seem to be pretty popular & work pretty good. I have the MT ET DR's in a different size and can't complain. How ever I am going to be picking up the 235 60 15's soon hopefully!
I have a tough time believing that a 235/60-15 tire would fit on a '92-95 Civic. And the larger diameter will sap some of that extra horsepower; it's like putting taller gears on your car.
You can get BFG drag radials in 205/50-15 and they should fit your car fine.

yea, that is too wide. the biggest problem i guess i am having is that i have 16 inch tires. i dont know if its just me or what but its hard to find 225 or 215 street radial for 16 inch rims. also, i am not sure if i can run 15 inch rims because i have itr brakes on my car.

the 235 60 15s require a low offset wheel and are a track only tire. with the b16 transmission and a big turbo the taller gears are actually a benefit.
you can try the bfgs if you want but i would seriously talk to the guys who are always drag racing. go ask gringoteg, myles has been cracking off low 11s all day with an integra making north of 500hp. his advice would be superior to anything you read here, he's testing quite a few combos for traction
you also don't want 16s, find a real drag slick in a 14 or 15" size that fits. that is if traction is goal #1, if street driving matters you have to use the drag radials.

Yup.
There is very little selection of competition tires (dragstrip as well as racetrack) in 16" sizes, so you will probably be better off getting a set of 15" wheels. The ITR has 15" wheels so at least some wheels should clear them on an ITR brake setup.

how do we know he has an ITR brake setup again?
i seriously didn't see it posted anywhere, not doubting just have no idea how you knew
that's actually a pretty decent tire and as cheap as 14s are worth using.

Yes. They typically don't even last five thousand miles. And they're expensive, like all drag radials. But you'll need to live with all of that if you're not getting enough traction from street tires.
that's true with the bfg. the nitto 555R lasts considerably longer. 10k miles if you're gentle and around 7-8k with average sporty driving. they also handle really well.
i dont mind if they dont last long because i dont drive the car much....i dont want my car stolen, lol. i drive 2000 miles at most every year.
has any one had experience with the toyo r888 on a high hp honda? i have given up trying to find a street radial that fits my civic with 16 inch rims, lol. I was reading reviews and from what i hear they are one of the best street tires out their.
