Default TRANNY OIL - overfill question

I recently thought i lost all my tranny oil all over my garage floor because i have a very nice friend that only put my axle half way in.. he bought me more oil and without asking put in 2 quarts. come to find out i emptied it there are 4.5 quarts!!! damnit!!

would this blow out my axle seals? i ran it for about 5 miles with the 4.5 quarts and it was leaking pretty bad out both sides.
pulled the axles and the seals are 100% clean without any tears or anything

i know the recommended amount is 2.3-2.5 quarts. Will it be safe to run as is or should i replace both axle seals? would the overfill cause this leaking?

It shouldn't hurt the seals, but I've never filled a trans up that much before. I would think your seals, whether you can see it or not, are damaged. They could have been damaged by the axle pulling out. That much fluid will create a lot of drag due to the gears rowing through the fluid (lube churning).

Recommended amount is not more than 2 quarts for a D- or B-series. So you were at least 2.5 quarts too full.
