hi, I bought a car which has a bit of smoke in vtec, not alot but a little puff when you change gear at high revs and a little throughout the vtec range.

Previous owner rebuilt the engine after the big end bearing seized, he replaced the B18c4 (GSR in USA) bottom end with a JDM Integra bottom end, also changed the piston rings and valve stem seals while it was being rebuilt.

I accidently put a bit too much oil in the car one day and experienced a loss of power after a motorway run home then the next day i started the car and got a puff of blue smoke so i took it to a mechanic and he drained some oil from it and said it was running but diagnosed it with bad piston rings, dont think he done any tests as i suggested it could be the rings so i think he just agreed.

I still get the blue smoke and it uses oil (but only if driving the car hard) but i have no loss of power, no puffs of smoke on startup only the smoke in 1st and 2nd gear. A compression test was done with a different mechanic and the readings were 17.5 bar per cylinder (246psi) exactly the same for all cylinders.

I spoke with the previous owner who rebuilt the engine and he said it always smoked after the rebuild and it was nothing to worry about.

Can anyone help with this as i would like to have it fixed properly if i intend to finish my build, i have googled it but nothing really fits my symptoms.

Does it smoke more on Decel or Accel?

Does it smoke at idle?

 

doesnt smoke at idle only when accelerating hard and only at high revs like 8000rpm when i change gear
