First off let me begin with saying I'm a newbie when it comes to aftermarket cam/head work and such. I've researched a lot and just have a few questions on what will really match what I want from my motor. Here's my motor now.
B18C (GSR)
ITR Pistons
GSR cylinder head (stock)
CTR cams
Skunk 2 manifold
ITR throttle body
3" SRI with BPi velocity stack
JDM ITR 4-1 header with full 2.5" exhaust
Next I guess I should let you know my goals for the set up.
1. Straight line acceleration 1/4 mile car that is also daily driver.
2. Pump Gas, 93 Octane
3. Might as well mention again, it's a daily driver.
With that being said there are some questions I have:
1. Is a port/polish absolutely neccasary to make some good power with camshaft/spring/retainer combo?
2. I like what I've seen of the Pro 1/Pro 2 Skunk 2 cams, are they too much cam for my build and what exactly will the difference be in the two? Is one more streetable then the other or really BETTER then the other? I have to say I do like the sound of the lopey idle they have.
3. Skunk 2 Stage 2 cams vs. the Stage 3? I thought the Stage 3 might be too much for my build with out some serious motor work because of the wild vtec, but I don't know for sure cause well....Im a newb, I do know that the Tuner series keep a stock like idle and that the pro series will be a little lopey.
Overall I just want to build the fastest street car I can with the short block I already have assembled. Possibility of working a port/polish in my budget might take a little longer to complete. Ultimately I would like to just upgrade cams/springs/retainers for now. Thanks, I appreciate any advice.

Start looking through these threads, it should give you a better idea of what's possible with different cams. You will probably answer your own question, if not you will probably have a much more narrowed down question to ask.

I tend to disagree with this completely, nothing against you, just my opinion here.
For a DD where your operating the motor between say 2-4k why not get the best whp/tq numbers possible there? Ill use an example.
Skunk2 Tuner 2's vs. Pro 1's
Tuner 2's may have 3-5whp more AFTER vtec engages BUT the 7-10whp gained in the low/mid range with the pros is way more useful for a DD, unless your a jackass that drives around in vtec all the time.
Just my thoughts, very vague example.

Well yes, I see your point. It would be nice to have a little more power vtec especially for dd'ing, I guess it all depends on what you want.
Since the stock primary lobes are designed with emisions, fuel economy, and a nice idle in mind, I would stay close to the stock spec.
If I wanted more power before vtec, didnt mind more emissions or a little less economy, pro cams would be my choice.
My perfect cam would be a grind focused more on fuel economy instead power on the small lobes, and a big *** high lift for vtec...Kinda like a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde type cam, lol.

hondaholic, your build is almost exactly the same as mine, except I don't have ITR pistons yet and I have GSR cams. I'm going with Skunk2 Pro 1's with my build instead of Tuner Cams because I want the power that they make before vtec. Please post your dyno numbers once you decide on what cams you use and once they are installed.

I will post numbers for sure as soon as cams are bought/installed/tuned. Will take a little time, but numbers will be posted for sure.

I guess I should mention that I live in a small town and emissions mean nothing to me, I can get inspection sticker regardless. As of now I am looking into either the Pro 1 or 2 cams. Just trying to research which cam will suit me the best.
On a side note just for reference, the set up I run now has run a best of 14.1 @101 in a full interior '00 Civic, so that is my starting point.

A couple of charts I have seen do show the Pro series making more power in vtec then the stage 2, not by much but at least being equal to. So that makes the Pro series seem like a pretty bad *** all around cam.

Are any of the Blox cams comparable to the Pro 1/2? I went to the blox racing site but really not much info. Any comments on the Blox HSL? I see there is a two different HSL cams, either one a copy of the Pro Series Skunk 2?
All tuner series cams have been ruled out for my build.
Only other cam I'm really looking at is the Toda Spec B if anyone has comments on Spec B vs. Pro series lets hear it. Cars main objective will be getting down the 1/4 mile.
I've been told the Pro Series can be tuned to idle right, that's a plus. I notice they still have a lopey sounding idle though. The Spec B Toda cams sound nasty, but how is the idle/drivability? Thanks for help.

The pro series can be tuned to idle correctly, the blox copies of that cam cannot because they copied the original pro 1 with a different centreline. Toda cams were designed around road racing rather than drag racing and would not be an "ideal" choice if 1/4 mile performance is what you're after. The Blox A,B, HSL are all copies of their tuner series cams, type C is a copy of Jun 3 Cams. Forget blox unless you want to warranty or tech support.
I have used both Toda B and Skunk2 Pro2 before. Both cams give a considerably good mid range, which is useful for DD I suppose, since we spend most of the time at midrange rpm. However Toda B's idle is a little bit lumpy, if you're OK with that then it's allright I guess. IMO Pro2 is better compare to Toda B, I was able to get stock idling with it, and better high end too, which is useful for that late evening friendly match if you need it! My race engine was using the Pro2, until it blew a few months back, my new engine I'll be going Pro3.
