Icon2 Crankshaft sprocket removal

Is there a special tool to remove the crankshaft sprocket on 96 Accord VTEC 4 cylinder? I'm trying to replace the seal, but cannot get the sprocket off the crankshaft.

Crank doesn't have a sprocket. It has a pulley, and yes. It's called a honda crank pulley or harmonic balancer pulley tool/holder.

False. well the first part.

it has a pulley and a sprocket. pulley for the accessory belts and a sprocket for the timing belt.

OP: i've run into some that clearly seem to be glued on.. sometimes the key will slide out with a little help from a set of pliers. this may free up the sprocket enough where you can work it loose. be liberal with the penetrating oil (Liquid Wrench, P.B. Blaster...)

if all else fails, carefully, carefully, carefully apply steady, even pressure from the backside of the sprocket with two flat-head screwdrivers. i like to put the crank pulley bolt back on to keep the sprocket from flying off when it breaks loose.

good luck wrenching!

I have always used a rubber malet carefully hitting all sides of the pulley. Never had a problem with this.

Mine didn't want to come off at first but I was able to walk the pulley off the crank. Use two hands and pull one side then the other. Work it back and forth until it comes loose.
