Default Real Simple Steering question

I have been looking up what could cause loose or shaky steering and have found out about the bushings that i guess sit behind the tie rods in the steering rack.

I'm simply wondering what the name is for these, or if anyone has some slick way to track down the honda part no.

Is there anything else i should be replacing or fixing in the steering rack while I'm in there?

Thanks a ton, this is something i haven't torn into yet.

does it rattle around over bumps? mine does the same thing. my alignment guy said its the tie rods but I have already checked them for play and found none. There is however play when shaking the rack itself around (not the housing, the rack).

I called Honda yesterday and the dealer i talked to pretty much told me i am fubar for small parts that old.

Energy Suspension makes steering rack bushings and all of the suspension bushings for our cars.
Or, if you want OEM, try Majestic Honda.

My mechanic buddy/fellow multi-CRX owner said just go ahead and replace the steering rack and it will definetely solve the problem. They are between $150-200 depending on where you get them. Here is one http://www.honda-auto-parts-wholesal...631+4294963310

I am doing the tie-rod ends and other pieces too but he said the rack is what causes the noise over bumps.

that would be the BEST way to.... waste your money.

i'll say this one more time.

the effort it takes to change the $10 bushing is just a bit more than replacing it completely. that little piece is all that is needed to "rebuild" a manual rack.

Wrong rack bushings. He/we are talking about internal to the rack

glad someone else sees the light.

such a noob response for "my steering wheel shakes when I brake", "oh it must be the rotors."

no, its the horrible play in the steering rack causing the warped rotors and causing the steering wheel to shake.

Okay sorry it took so long to get back on here, thanks a ton for the input. Since I don't have the cash for a new steering box. rebuilding mine is the option I have ha ha! I also first thought it was the rotors and I'm sure that's still somewhat an issue, after research I found out about these annoying little bushings! So i am going to order what i need for the rebuild and go from there with the rotors.

So I want to make sure I can order everything and the right things for the job, can anyone tell me specfically which parts I need? I just want to make sure I'm getting the right bushings and what not. Thanks a ton!

It's from majestic honda here http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...ERING+GEAR+BOX
