JDM F22B1.. JDM ECU TOO?
Hi, I have a 97 Accord EX(f22b1). I am shopping for a motor right now cause my motor took a crap. I found a few JDM F22B1 for good prices with low miles. If i end up getting a JDM motor, does that mean I have to switch the USDM ECU to a JDM ECU as well? Ive tried searching and I am getting different answers. Please help, as I need to get my car going again(btw, if you have a motor in the south florida region, let me know, Im in Miami.) THanks in advance.
If the motor is stamped F22B1 it wont be a JDM motor.
JDM's are only stamped F22B, and comes in other varieties, such as DOHC non-VTEC.
American ECU's are fine, I'm sure tons of us have done it; the ECU depends on the F22B. If its SOHC VTEC ten B1 ECU is fine, if its non-VTEC the LX ECU, if its DOHC then H23 Prelude is fine.

yes, it will indeed be the F22b VTEC. I just want to make sure, cause Ive read different things like the gas over in Japan is a higher octane and etc.. well thanks.
Dont do it.
Do the F23A VTEC swap, the F22B DOHC Non-Vtec, or the H22A swap.
The rest will just be a wasted effort.
I know someone in Miami that did the H22A on his 5th gen Accord if you need help or something..

well the thing is, I am on a budget. I have a friend who is gonna do the swap for $400. I am looking at motors for $650-$700 shipped. im looking at $1100 total. I would like to put something else in, but I know its going to call for more labor=more money, and a more expensive motor. Unless its a direct fit, with no mods, I def cant do that. Plus, I would have to change the ECU, and transmission, cause my little f22b1 tranny is already slipping a little and it couldnt handle the extra 55hp.
You can get a full auto H22a swap in this area for 1200 out the door.
I think you should try it. The H22 is pretty much plug and play on 5th gen accords. get a 92-96 prelude drivers side mount and a jumper harness.

ok i have 1996 accord ex that has a real jdm motor f22b and using the original f22b1 ecu. if u use the original harness u shuldnt have check engine light if no sensor is broken. it will perform the same and dont expect the f22b to have a high kicking vtec noise
