Default Help me decide Fmax/Apexi/Drag a SOHC

Goals are 250whp 200tq mid 13's. I cant decide on the 3. I plan on building motor with rods/pistons/standalone thats preety much it for me. Money really isnt a issue between the kits but the fmax is gonna be $3700,apexi with bov and fmic is gonna be around $3500 and the drag will be like $3300. Help me out guys.

Apexi

And plan on boosting around 15psi to get 250whp, i'd also get a blockguard, sleeves, or have the block posted, and run 9:1 CR

Custom is the ****, but do it right. Out of the kits the Apex'i is the nicest from what I have seen, but I think it's going to take more than just 15 PSI on that turbo to do 250, but I am not real familiar with IHI so don't quote me on that. 250 is a very modest number for a built block so get the smallest turbo you can get away with....faster spool ownz j00!

Custom if you can do it for sure, that's the route I'm taking, but if you were getting a kit, get an Apexi.

D16 vtecs make usually around 200whp@10psi, 225whp@12psi, thats the numbers i've seen over and over, so 250whp@15psi is a pretty logical guess, and if you go custom at least get a small-trim T3, they spool up quick and flow good at higher RPMs.

If you are sticking aftermarket pistons and rods, go ahead and get some sleeves or get the block posted so you can boost more, otherwise aftermarket pistons/rods are worthless pretty much.

Thxs for the help so far but the thing i dont understand is why everyone is saying go apexi. I cant find any real info on the ihi turbos they use in their kits. Is it any bigger then a t25? Custom is the way to go but it's really not for me. I just want to buy a complete kit and be done with it untill I have some more money saved up. From what I have searched on fmax it seems like the kit is good except for the mf2. I see alot of people bashing that and their customer support. I really have no info on drag for the sohc but I see alot of people with the kit for the dohc love it. I had a greddy kit and wasnt to thrilled with it. I need some info from the drag3 guys and fmax or some good reasons to go with the apexi kit. Thxs for the help keep it coming

Greddy makes a very good kit, but Apex makes more power and has a BB turbo for fast spool. And yes, it's bigger than a T25.

First off thxs for the link. The apexi kit was 3rd on my list and now its among the top 2. The only thing that concerns me about the apexi kit is potential. Do you think the turbo could hold 250whp? I just got a price quote on the kit for $2250 without the fmic/bov and fuel upgrade. Add those 3 in and you still looking at like $3300 or more. Any drag or fmax users pls let me know what you think. Thxs guys

Hey, I'm running the Apex kit on my D16Z6 and I have to say that the quality is exceptional. The spool is slightly slower then the Td04 in the greddy kit I used to run but the flow at high rpms is much better. I have no doubt that BB IHI turbo will get you to 250 whp. I couldn't imagine the lag on a T3/T4 on our little motors. That would be a bad choice if you want a quick spool.

Everything about the kit is top notch. The fit is excellent and I don't have a single oil leak unlike the greddy. You get what you pay for and if a smaller turbo is the same price as a larger one you have to think something makes up for it.

Foget custom. You'll never get fit and finish to be as nice as the Apex and if keeping your ac is important to you that makes custom that much more difficult.

...just my .02
