Hey guys, I put a new Mfactory diff in my b16a2 trans, as well as new sleeves, syncs, seals.. The whole nine yards.
We get the trans in, everything all bolted up and I push the clutch to start the car, I left off the clutch (IN NEUTRAL) and it dies. I start it again, go in and out of a gear to make sure I'm in neutral and same thing, something is loading the trans but it won't move forward or backwards. I slide the shifter into first and left off the clutch and the car will move forward.
So what's the deal? Also, It's very difficult to go into any gear with the motor on/off clutch in and out. 5-reverse side is almost impossible to get the shifter there unless you wiggle the shifter a ton.
So what'd we mess up on rebuilding the trans?

Did the mainshaft spin once the transmission was put back together? Did you check the clearances for the diff?
I'm not too sure if too tight of a clearance would seize it so badly that the trans wouldn't move but it could be a possibility? Did yo replace the mainshaft shims and in the right order?

Could be a lot of issues. Start with the clutch system first (CMC and CSC, clutch itself) then go back into the trans if all is good there.

it was the shift selector mechanism. Sort of hard to explain but it's what moves when the shift linkage wiggles back and forth.

first, the builder hammered the case on which cracked the case. we got the piece welded back on where the rod of the selector slides in. it ended up being bent towards the bottom of the case about a 1/8-1/4 inch which made it difficult to select gears and no neutral..
put a new selector in and worked like a champ!
