Default Hybrid Tranny Question

Well I have a GSR tranny that I'd like to basically turn into a '98 Spec Type-R tranny. I want a 2.105 second gear, and a 1.458 third gear, along with the 4.7 Final Drive and OEM LSD. I would like to know what's the best way to go about this, and if the B16 second and third gears are compatable. I know I'll have to us a '98 Spec ITR/Aftermarket countershaft, but that's it. I'm transmission retarded.

Can I use my GSR 1st, 4th, and fifth on the ITR/Aftermarket countershaft?

Are the B16 2nd and 3rd gears able to work on the ITR/Aftermarket countershaft?

Any input would help, thanks.

i believe you need to keep the 3-4 as a pair ie. use either the b16 ones or the gsr ones. Not sure specifically though maybe b16 and gsr are interchangeable but i know some are not, due to the slider/hub assembly.
all b series first gears have the same ratio
to use b16 second you will need the b16 main shaft. the counter shaft should work with any gears, the important thing is to keep your countershaft and final drive as a matched pair.

Well if 3-4 is a pair, I'd have to buy '98 Spec ITR, correct? And to put a 4.7 FD I'd need the '98 Spec ITR or aftermarket countershaft, but did not know anything about changing the mainshaft... Hmmm. Thanks for the input. Anyone else?

Buy a 98+ JDM ITR trans or a USDM ITR trans and add the 4.7 in, or a B16 trans and add the LSD and 4.7 in.

To get what you want you need:

B16A2/B18C5 mainshaft
B16A2/B18C5 countershaft 2nd gear
B18C 98+ countershaft 1st gear, collar, needle bearings
B18C 98+ countershaft
B18C 98+ ring gear
B18C LSD
B16A2/B18C5 mainshaft and countershaft 3rd gear

Thankyou, I was waiting for your input! That's what I want/didn't wanna hear :/. Is there anything I could do to shorten up second gear on my GSR tranny, and still possibly do an LSD and FD?

Only way to shorten second is a shorter FD or actually changing out 2nd to B16A2/ITR.

I have a C5 trans here, all that would be needed for your setup is an MFactory or OEM FD (if you don't want the stock 4.40).

Ithought the B16A2/ITR second wouldn't work unless I swapped shafts? Lol, I'm a tranny newb. How much, just curious? Thanks for the help!

Correct. When I say 2nd gear, I mean the mainshaft and countershaft 1/2.
