Hello all, Just picked up a Civic 93 Ex and the the hood latch or cable to the latch is broken. The hood wont close all the way down its just latching on and I check to make sure its secured and it look and seems secured even on the highway but afraid the hood could fly open. The cable under the steering wheel is no longer connected to the handle that opens the front hood and like I said the holds not closing all the way. Need help. Thanks.

 

I had the same issue with mine, the actually latch is what was broken on mine it wore down and just didnt hold the final lock in place it was held down by the initial lock so i ordered another one. I did a lot of interstate driving and i was quite nervous about the hood flying up so i went out and bought some cheap *** hood pins just to hold it down :p .

 

 

I have the same issue now. I'll order a new latch when I feel like it but I have a system that works for me. I'm missing a spring that puts tension on the latch when you push the hood down. The safety latch grabs, but not the main latch because the tension spring is missing. What I do is, is I twisted a chicken wire together, shimmied it through the right side of my grill and looped it over a little tooth to the rear left of the latch. I pull to the right on that wire, and push down on the hood and the latch grabs and works fine till I open the hood and need to do it again.

Like I said, the piece wrong on mine is a missing spring that's supposed to connect to a little tooth looking piece behind the main latch and to the left. It moves left and right and kinda sticks out once you know what you're looking for.
