Default Early rev limit

Alright guys I'm trying to help a buddy fix his car because it revlimits about 1500 rpms too early. I've searched and searched and came up with nothing that has fixed the problem. It's a pretty basic p30 pistons lsvtec on a chipped p28. So far we have changed out the ecu, dizzy, wires, plugs, iat sensor, speed sensor, cluster, injectors, fpr and nothin has changed. I'm up for any ideas.

Its really unlikely for an oem cluster to read 1500rpm low. My jdm itr cluster reads about 300rpm high, which I dont mind. Your problem is probably in the chip. Thats about all thats left.

I've used 3 different ecus, 2 chipped with 2 different redlines and one stock p30 and they it redlines about 1500 before each one is suppose to so that's not the problem.

Sounds to me like the tach is off. there is no way all 3 ecu's had a problem.

No cels, already thought of the tach that's why I changed the cluster out. And that would be great all motor but I don't have a chip burner.

I have a chip burner, and i can burn you a chip, it'll cost you but for 25.00 i dont think you'd really care.

I had a similar problem redline at 6500 rpm it was in a 96 cx turned out to be the wiring from switching it over to obd1 vtec check your wires if you switch things over

if it was a engine swap it could be how the tranny is tuned. I know a si tranny revs around 8-9 where as a standard civic tranny revs at about 7-8. just throwing it out there i could be wrong.

Its either the tacho reading wrong ( i have seen some off by even 2000rpm)
or its a lack of fuel up high.

The transmission/ vss will not affect rev limit. The ECU only uses the VSS input to calculate fuel compensation for a given gear.

It could be the tune or the tranny i have a d16 tranny with d15b and before my tune it would rev only to 5 then i advanced the timing and fuel and it revs to 7 but the noise it made at redline was sharp and sounded like cracking and knock not like a rev limit
