get an lsd and use the gsr trans. there are a decent amount of people out there now using stock gsr trannys with an lsd making sub 10 second passes

 

GSR with LSD

shorter than an LS tranny, so you will accelerate faster, but not as short as a b16, will give you decent trap speeds.

Few guys in my area running GSR transmissions with LS final drives to increase their trap speed at the strip.

 

id go with the gsr also. mine went out on me this year so i put an ls trans on my car and it felt slower. the gearing kinda sucks too because if i don't rev it out it falls out of boost between shifts.
the gsr is prefect, not too long and not too short.

 

I agree with Alex, & no cons I can point out, the GSR tranny is a good median point between the B16 & LS, and X2 on the LS final drive. Some will even add an LS 5th for better 5th gear highway use.

Your desired redline & car purpose will play a role as well, OP.

 

how bout a itr trans lsd...would the gsr still be best...

 

Man-O-Man ,,,,,,, I swear every day I drive to work in my car I always and i mean always catch myself reaching down and trying to shift into another gear. My GSR just feels like it needs a taller 5th gear or a 6th gear. so.....Is it pretty strait forward to install the LS 5th gear in the GS-R transmission?

 

ALOT of people do a GSR with lsd and ls 5th gear..

or they go b16 with a b16 1/2nd gears gsr 3/4 and ls 5th with a b16 FD

I've tuned probably 3 cars in this month alone that have done some type of b16/gsr/ls hybrid tranny setup... all cars making sub 400whp levels.

i went 10.02@149 on a stock gsr lsd tranny.

A LS trans with a Mfactory 1st 3.070 gear and a Mfactory 4.785 final drive with their clutch type LSD?

.1st gear is taller than stock. Which helps bring the speed back up in first since the final drive lowers speed on all gears.

.wont have to shift into 5th gear in the 1/4 mile.. max speed at 8500RPM on 24.5'' slicks= 138-140mph.

 

I love my gsr trans, however an ls 5th gear would be great, at 80mph im turning 4k rpms, but i just look at it like it keeps me from speeding, 60 is a bit under 3k and i just stay there

 

ITR tranny is like a B16 with LSD, wouldnt be bad at all, just highway cruising your RPM's would be up there, so gas mileage would be affected, not that gas mileage should be a priority for anyone boosting though

 

if it's a daily driver i suggest Ls 5th, im in the process of swapping to it now. Also don't forget LSD. MFactory LSD here.

Will do, but i have some bad news for anyone who wants the 5th gear countershaft, they are on back order so they are ordering them from japan and it could be weeks to months. Luckily i got the last one and it should be here in a week.

 

what did that run you, if you dont mind me asking?

 

everything delivered including main shaft bearing, seal, and countershaft + mainshaft gear was 170 to my door

 

For sure- you can't go wrong here! I daily drive mine and it gets me through VTEC way faster
