Default carbonator gods?

Hey guys, Ill start with a couple things, I have searched and had little to no luck, secondly I am a young tech myself (chrysler) I was hardly walking while this ancient technology was in use and have NO training or experience on the topic, so my parents buying this and asking me to fix it is getting old...

ANYWAY, I am working with a 87 civic sedan. According to all data its equipped with a D15A2 carbonated 4 cyl. There was a cooling system concern which I am fairly certain I have pinpointed a faulty temperature switch for that one as the fan wasnt kicking on and I was able to bypass the switch and make it function...

My concern is it eats the #4 sparkplug not sure exact time between sparkplug deaths but i am pretty sure its within a month (>500 miles). I was kinda leaning towards a starved cylinder detonating and litterally the ground electrode is gone eventually causing a hard misfire, upon inspection I pulled the air cleaner housing off the carb, working the linkage I found a plunger on the back drivers side of the carb was spraying fuel out when throttle pressure is relieved (the plunger goes in on throttle apply and out on throttle release, I am assuming there is a torn/cracked/damaged seal down in the carb, I am not even sure what the function of this plunger is... I would be happy to get some pictures if it would help!

Any help is much appreciated!

Thank you,

-Andrew
