Default Boost: retard timing by..? per PSI

Ok, the car is boosted and I need to get it tuned. What is a good way to maximize HP but also be on the safe side of things....based on some articles I've read, I was thinking something like this:

PSI 0 - 1 .... no retard at all
PSI 2 - 3 .....(.5) retard per pound of boost
PSI 4 +........(1.0) degrees per pound of boost

Here are the engine specs:

L15A1
stock internals
10.4:1 ratio

thanks all...

You cannot base timing on articles, even though the burnrate of one type gasoline is somewhat consistant, the amount of time from the sparkignite to a full combustion depends on to many variables just to throw out some numbers.

Do yourself a favour, and get it dyno tuned.

read and understand why you want to retard your timing. Dont just retard it to 1.0 cause a friend told you to. I have never let someone tune my car. I have read for hours all types of books and post. find as much info as you can on reading plugs.I have been to the dyno with my street tune made 300hp 57 trim. I love tuning cars, i tune my friends cars for free alot with crome. I have never blown up a engine and the cars i tune are most of the time very fast at the track. I think i am going to have to stop tunning for free, i got to many people calling on saturday wanting me to drop what ever i am doing to tune there cars.

I am a very novice tuner i can tell you without going to a tuning school it will be hard to get info about timing and boost. light off point of what type of fuel is being used and where to start and how to finish with maximum power and minimal engine damage is what others have spent years to perfect. the best thing i ever did was get a good software for the ecu and have read every book i could get twice. and it really helped me learn what was happening. Neptune RTP was my choice without i could be picking up pieces of my engine with a snow shovel.GL
