Replacement speakers?
Hi guys,
So one of my rear speakers seems to have blown out, or come loose, because at a certain volume i notice that it will start buzzing. (usually on a bass heavy song) The speakers are stock, and i dont really have a problem with them for now, (other than the buzzing) so i was wondering if anyone knew what would be a good type to replace the broken one. Im not really looking to invest into a full-blown system, but it does get a bit annoying having to hear a buzzing sound when i listen to music. Soooo any helpful tips would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Man, there are soooo many options to replace a stock speaker... What type of budget do you have for you speakers? If you posted that info, along with the year, make, and model of your car, along with what speakers you wanna replace (front or back), Im sure you'll get tons of replies... As far as the buzzing, this usually comes from one of a cpl situations. Most commonly, with stock speakers, the surround around the cone that connects the cone to the basket gets cracked or torn. Another being the actual speaker is lose (a screw or something) and the other being, a panel or something around the speaker is vibrating. I've had customers come to my shop thinking their door speaker was blown, and it ended up being that a pencil or something was sitting in the pocket of the door, and it vibrated at a resonant frequency, usually during a bass heavy song.
look for cheaper models from good companies like, Pioneer, PowerBass, JL Audio, Kicker and Rockford Fosgate. all of them will sound way better then the factory speakers.
its a 2006 civic coupe , i dont know what size the speaker is, (im kinda bad at this stuff XD) everythings stock in the car as far as i know. I really dont want to get anything too cheap if its going to sound like crap, but i also dont know what the typical price of a good speaker is. As long as its not hundreds of dollars for just one speaker!
it looks like front and rear are 6.5", the fronts tend to be shallow so you'll also want to pickup some spacers or a shallow mount speaker. i prefer the Hertz Dieci for a budget, entry level speakers. great quality, handles factory power without problem. the main question is what is your budget for this little project and did you want to do both front and rear, or just replace your rears that are making strange noises??
If Im not mistaken, the rear panels in those cars hold 6.5" speakers, so you're lucky, that is prob the most common speaker size known to man! you've got a ton of stuff to choose from. If you don't have an amp, you should shy away from speakers with the promise that they can handle tons of power. As mhart said, just about any speaker will sound better than a factory speaker (esp a blown one!), so, i would just go to your local shop and demo some speakers to get an idea of what you want... If you're paying retail, I'd expect to spend anywhere from like $85 to $150 on a good quality factory replacement speaker set that doesn't need much power to sound good.
