i bought a b18b1 out of a 97 civic , and now i wanted to know what exactly im goin to need to get the car up and runnnin and to convert it to obd1 , i know the car had a b18 in it at one point and it has a p28 ecu im pretty sure i need a dizzy and i dont know about the wire harness , any input will be helpful

 

to make it easy on yourself you could just run a jumper harness. there are a ton of FAQ's on this located at the top of Honda Civic/Del Sol (1992 - 2000) page.

 

It's hard to say exactly what you will need, because we don't know what someone did in order to put it in their 1997 Civic.

For anyone to be able to tell you any actual truthful info on what you'll need, you'd need to post the following:

- Pics of the various OBD plug related parts on the engine such as distributor, injectors, alternator plug, etc.

- We need to know what year the ENGINE itself is too - sure it came out of a 1997 Civic, but it could have started life as a 1994 Integra engine. If the engine and/or transmission have VIN plates (green riveted-on plates on front of transmission, and front of block down low by oil pan, behind header) then it started life as an OBD2 96-01 Integra engine at least.

As far as engine harness goes that will really depend largely on the things I've listed above. If it is all actually OBD2 stuff then the easiest thing to do is find any 1996-2001 Integra engine harness (5-speed manual model if possible) and use it for your engine harness. Despite being from an "OBD2" car the engine harness plugs directly into your 1995 Civic's chassis harness at the shock towers. Again if the B18B1 started off OBD2 and still has all its OBD2 sensors, plugs, etc. the 96-01 Integra harness will plug into that B18B1 without any wiring changes needed on the engine harness.

The B18B1 doesn't even have a knock sensor to wire up either.

That P28 ECU will not work with the B18B1 unless you plan on adding a VTEC head. You'll want a 94-95 Integra P75 OBD1 ECU as it will plug into your Civic's chassis harness ECU plugs.

Trust me the whole "OBD2 vs. OBD1" thing is very overstated in terms of what harness and ECU you need. Technically the ECU really determines OBD type in terms of which sensor are actually being read, etc.
