Icon2 All B-series differentials the same

I need to buy a B-series diff and want to know what will fit in a S4C B16 trans. Will a LS, GSR or B16 all fit? Is it just the ring gear that is needed? I have read that the ring gear bolt patterns vary, so I wouldn't be able use my OEM B16 ring gear. Also, I have heard that any B-series diff will fit as along as it is a complete diff and ring gear assembly? What about a cable diff in a hydro trans? Thanks for the help!

92-93 GSR, 92-00 B16, and 92-01 LS use the same differential. You can use any of them unless it's a factory viscous LSD which uses a different bolt pattern, so you'd need the ring gear / countershaft as well.

Thanks for the info. I know you know your transmissions, but can anyone else confirm?

What Honda Bull said is correct. If you want a bolt in factory diff for you b16, buy a diff from one of the cars listed by Honda Bull.

The 96+ gsr and type r diffs have a differen bolt pattern, which means you'll need a new ring gear, counter shaft, etc,etc..

I installed a jdm 4.785 final drive into my jdm 2nd gen b16a tranny. I didnt have the extra money for a type r diff, so i bought a 98 gsr open diff on ebay for $30.

Type R Torsen will fit with minimal grinding of the case interior and a GSR ring gear. Also needs B16 bearings pressed on.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Is there a way to identify the diff's so I don't have to take someones word only to find out they lied or didn't know what they had? Markings? Can I measure something? Other?

OEM B16/LS diff will be stamped "PS1" and the GSR diff will be stamped "P80"
