Default b series diff/ ring gear problems

ok..

i have a 94+ jdm gsr hydro trans. but i orderd a Rob Moore spool for a b16 hydro trans.

i took the trans apart thinking that the spool i had would work in the gsr trans. well it turns out that the holes for the ring gear to bolt onto the spool were in a smaller circle than the holes for the ring gear on the stock gsr differential.

my question is. did i recieve the wrong spool or are the b16 hydro and gsr diff/ring gear differant ?????

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Ring gears are different, they are the same ratio, and diameter, but the inside diameter is smaller on the B16... I think it had something to do with the factory going to a larger differential for higher HP and TQ on the GSR, so in doing so they had to make the gear ID larger too.
You will either need a GSR spool, or a B16 ring gear to fit your Rob Moore spool... you can do it either way.
Yes the countershafts are the same for both trannys.

thanks for the help,

so your saying if i get a b16 ring gear i will be cool?? the gears will mesh correctly and everything?

im thinking of getting a 4.7 or 4.9 final drive for this puppy, as i have 28 inch slicks.

im gona get new bearings also (that slide onto the sides of the diff) they should be the same between b16 and gsr hydro correct??

thanks again

well if your gonna go with a higher final drive, then you will also be changing the countershaft.

If not yes, the gears will mesh exactly the same!

As far as the bearings go, no they are different... the B16 uses a straight roller bearing, and the GSR a tapered roller bearing, but you can also change these out too... the entire bearing race will change along with the bearing itself, so I would stick with the tapered roller bearings as it has a greater side load capacity.
