First time pulling my motor
Picked up this a few weeks ago (93 sedan), and figured its about time to get started

not any massive plans for it as of now as money is tight and most of what I do have is going towards the motor.. i'm still trying to decide if i want to keep the exterior the way it is (clean it up of course) or do a complete color change and paint it a creme color. and convert everything except the hid's back to stock..
anyway, first things first. i need to get the motor out of this bitch and clean up the bay.. i wanna do a minor wire tuck, shave some holes i don't need and paint the bay a shade of purple, haven't decided yet..
i've never pulled a motor before, nor have i done a wire tuck so is there anything i should know and be aware of before i start? i assume one just unplugs everything, unbolts the motor mounts and tranny and lifts it out? i hear its pretty simple when it comes to hondas.
thanks in advance
also, while the motor is out, are there any good mods i can do for more power? i'd like to boost it in the FUTURE, not anytime soon so i don't need anything too crazy as of now. it needs new cam seals and im guessing new o rings considering the spark plugs are covered in oil

yeah its pretty straight forward actually. I would recommend video taping the unplugging off all the wires and hoses in case you forget where everything goes. theres alot of plugs to keep track of. or at least photo documenting it all.
If you plan on boosting it would be a waste to do any NA mods since alot of them would be irrelevant in a boost setup.
if you have oil in the spark plug holes def put up a valve cover gasket set, that should clear that up real quick.
other than that.. yeah. I've never messed with wire tucks before, but this would be a good time to do it. but in all honesty.. unless your seriously painting your car, or you need to do a re-build pulling the motor isnt that much of a cake walk that its worth it just to take care of your engine bay, how many ppl do you show it to anyways
I would personally wait till it really needed to come out like when you settle on a color for the whole car. purple would look bad against red the way it is now, might be cool on a creme color, but I like keeping things all the same, so if the car is creme, engine bay is creme but thats just me of course.

right, purple would look like shiz against red.. so red would have to go.. thanks for the insight, i should def think about it a little more.. i guess the engine needs a little work anyway, the car wont be on the road till possibly after winter so why not learn how to pull it, ya know?
well yeah if its going to be down for awhile I see no reason why not. If you dont have a hoist its pretty easy to drop it down through the bottom.. but I've always used a hoist to put it back in, Im sure its possible to put it back in through the bottom, but i dont know any method to do so.
just remember anything you take apart you need to replace the gasket for, like if you take the head off or the oil pan ect. pick up an engine stand and you can clean everything real good, repaint your motor if you want ect.

yeah, the body shop i work at should have most of the **** i need to do it. we've got a hoist, stand etc.. i'm definitely going to invest in some gaskets and seals and most likely reseal everything. i see a lot of people going with arp head studs, why's it matter?
from the research ive done I've heard of people doing a good amount of hp on the stock head bolts and not having the head lift on them. Im putting somewhere around 200ish boosted and I use the stock headbolts without an issue. but alot of ppl swear up and down on the arp's..

Typically on large project's I will LABEL any bolts or nuts I put off and place them in sandwich bags along with where they went and what they go to
You can also number hose with some type of marker OR those little sign labels you can print out and say label a hose number 1 and then stick another label with nummber 1 on the piece it came off of...That will make things MUCH MUCH easier, you can do the same thing with plugs you take off the motor while pulling it out
Main thing is LABEL AND NUMBER EVERYTHING and keep all nuts and bolts in bags in a SAFE place, You dont want to have "extra" screws and bolts that you have no clue where they go to

@lunar, yeah, i've done some research on them and people really do like them.. they're not TOO expensive so im thinkin i should for it. i'd like anything that can help with speed!
tinc, i was planning on using masking tape and numbering them like you said, but oddly enough i bought a bunch of those sign labels cuz they were cheap and i figured i could use them for something. now i can! good idea lol. gunna take lunch of pictures and what not. cant wait to get started

pretty much everything has been covered. Esp since its gonna be awhile before the engine goes back in....organize organize organize. Might as well check out them axles too.
I'll be doing the same once winter comes. I plan on putting a piece of masking tape on each side of the plug and labeling A-Z for both sides
Do a battery and fusebox tuck and repaint the bay and valve cover. I really like the gold but it doesn't go well with the red.
