jmd b16a on stock p30 in a 95 Si. been swapped for 2 years with no problems until now.

my car has been running like crap lately with vtec cutting in and out at random and sometime not engaging at all. it feels like the car is falling on its face after 5500 rpms. i can take it all the way to 8k rpms and vtec will not engage at all. starts up and idles just fine and drives find under 5k rpm's. also, my speedometer does not work properly. it will either bounce around randomly or just flat out not work at all. i checked my codes by doing the jumper wire procedure and it was reading codes 7(7 quick blinks) and 17(1 long blink and then 7 quick blinks). these codes are for vss speed sensor and tps sensor. so i replaced the tps sensor with a brand new blox tps sensor. immediately after, i took my car for a drive and its only throwing code 17

maintenance i have performed in the past week:
Cleaned IACV
Replaced fuel filter
Replaced spark plugs
Replaced dist. Cap and rotor
Replaced tps with a new Blox tps sensor
Replaced stock cluster with a Sir 2 gauge cluster
Cleaned the vtec solenoid mesh filter

EDIT: replaced with a brand new speed sensor and everything is working properly, as of now

i had tht problem, it was my speed sensor, but not the sensor itself it was the pig tail got all corroded and messed up some dielectric greese i cleaned the pig tail the best i could then the problem went away

just took my car out for a drive again and the CEL light came on. i came home and checked the CEL code and now i am only throwing code 17(1 long blink and 7 quick blinks). my plug on the vehicle speed sensor does look like it could be corroded. i will take a picture and post it up

i cleaned up the plug and speed sensor with wd40. i disconnected the battery to reset the system before i removed the speed sensor and cleaned the plugs. reinstalled everything plus hooked the battery back up and took the car for a drive for about 3 miles. i never threw a CEL but my speedometer is still not working and vtec does not kick in

replace the speed sensor, if it was just the cluster vtec would still crack

Check your alternator/speed sensor fuse for me.

checked all the fuses and they were good. went to autozone and bought a new speed sensor, Duralast brand. installed it and speedometer and vtec are both working properly! did the jumper wire procedure and no codes so far.

if it does it does it again in the future i had to replace my pigtail for it too but im gald its working for u
