How much to install power steering in my 97 Civic?
Im buying a 97 dx this weekend, the car is pretty mint, but has no power steering, just curious if anyone knows how much putting it in would be, but also thinking that it wouldnt hurt by not having power steering. any input would help guys thanks
I have the parts needed to convert my 96 DX to power steering. The only problem is the power steering pressure switch in the power steering pressure line. The DX wiring harness has no provisions to connect it.
My question is will it matter much? If I get the connector and wiring from the salvage yard car and connect it, will the DX computer recognize this new input?

To answer my own question, the car idles fine with power steering and no PSPS. I'll have to test it at -20°F with the steering wheel cranked to all the way to the stop.
PS is a luxury you do not need on a civic. My pump went out once on my '00 EJ8 and I never noticed till pulling out of a BK once and it wasn't even hard. My friend's Del Sol doesn't have it and once again, you only notice at stopped turns and even then, it's hardly noticeable. If anything, you're saving weight and clutter in your engine bay by keeping it out.

keep it manual, lie before stated it unclutters your bay, and isnt noticeable while driving. i will sell my power steering rack and pump and all that if interested. i am converting my manual myself
you dont have to use the pressure switch plug..just run the pump with belt and an line..to racking pinion...make sure you use the ex or si steering wheel rack nutckle to the ps rack..your dx wont work on the ps racking pinion..
