I have a chance of getting a really good deal on a B18c complete head would it be a good mod for my standard B16a engine?If so will the new head just bolt up or does anything else need changing like supporting mods?? Thanks in advance guys. My car is my daily that sees about 3-4 track events a year

 

a b16 head flows really well, and you will have less options for the gsr head, it is really not worth the time or money to swap the heads, if you have extra cash, just upgrade cams, and springs and retainers, and have it tuned, you will be happy, or just buy a skunk to or edelbrock intake manifold either way the b16a head flows very well

 

Thanks for the reply but i would have thought the Integra type r had a better flowing head, lighter valve train with dual springs and better cams? Right i must read up on them again.

On the off chance im confusing the 2 is you GSR the same as our Integra Type R engine wise?

 

better off using that money and building the b16 head imo unless the gsr is already built

 

I didn't see where you posted that it was a gsr head. Op is the head from a type r or sir? How much will you be getting it for?

 

Is it a B18C type r or GSR?

 

The original pr3 head on the B16A is a great design and works well. By switching to a P72 (gsr), you will have zero performance gain if it is stock. The gsr makes 2whp more hp at low rpm and 2 less at high rpm....the PR3 is the opposite

 

sorry guys im from ireland we have slightly different lingo when it comes to hondas the head i am being offered is from an 98 spec integra type r i can get this complete head (head cams valves springs retainers etc) for about 250 euro, i know ITR cams are more aggressive than the ones found in my EK4 but i wasnt sure about the rest of the head?

 

All you are gaining is cams and a IMO shitty pnp job from the factory. Spend the money on you b16 head for better cams springs and retainers and it will put the itr head to shame.

 

Glad i asked,i always thought the Heads on the DC2 and EK9 were better flowing and that the springs and retainers were a good upgrade

 

The P72 (gsr/VTI) head allows B16a2 pistons to hit it at high RPMs as has no indented squise like on PR3 so beware. I had 2 bottom ends fail until i realised what was happening, the rods stretch quite a bit at 8k + and u need about 35-40 thou clearance.

 

I see lots of OPINIONS in here.

GSR head adds about .2 compression over the b16 longblock due to the quenched combustion chambers which would not be a bad thing. I have never heard of or seen piston contact on a healthy b16 bottom end and gsr head. The flow testing done on the 2 heads is minimal in difference and this topic of b16 vs gsr heads has been covered a million times.

250 euros (~$385 US) for a type r head complete is a steal and you would be a fool to listen to these guys and try to build up your stock head for that price. Buy the type r head and sell your stock b16 head and buy a header. The itr springs and retainers are a good upgrade on a b16/b18c that isnt revving to the moon.

Lets say he were to get used itr cams ~300
valvesprings and retainers new ~280 used half that
itr tb and intake manifold ~250-300
lighter valves ~150
so called shitty pnp/valve job ~250

So its not just better cams, false information does not help people. If you dont know for sure, dont recommend things.

 

^^ thats what i originally thought. I am not planning a full on NA build at the minute just looking for a nice upgrade over stock and i thought 250 euros was a great price, specially since ITR cams go for nearly 200 alone, im a little confused now

 

250 euro's IS a great price. think about it this way. you pick it up, let it sit for a bit, and decide you don't want it, you can sell it for almost twice as much as what you bought it for. good investment imo. i'd personally rock it

 

For the money you can't beat those upgrades. The motor for a street car would be done and a lot of fun. Throw in a chipped ecu and a decent header and you will have a peppy little 1.6

 

Thanks guys think ill go with it, is it a direct bolt-on, i take it i wouldnt really see the gains from the Cams without some sort of ECU or piggyback and a map?Anything else i should look to do at the same time while i have the head off? Bar timing belt as this is a definite.
