Icon6 Motor Swap Questions for a 97 Ek

Alright to begin this discussion, I currently have a D16Y5 Motor, I am debating between getting a B18C1/5 or getting a H23a Vtec. I know the B18 will pretty much mount right up, but the Questions I have are about the H23a vtec (blue Cover)

Will the Shift linkage match up?
I know I have to get Swap mounts, Which brand do you prefer?
Will the torque mounts match up?
Will the stock axles line up?

Also is the LSD transmission worth the extra $$?
Im pretty sure there isn't any, but Will I need to change any electrical connectors for the H23a?

Also on a personal preference what would you buy if it was you B18c1/5 or H23a vtec?

All input is welcome, no flaming please!

if you go H23A vtec...

buy engine
buy b series tranny, axles, shift linkage
buy H2B kit

it will bolt right in, you will make 200hp, and lots and lots of tq, starting right off of idle!!

b18c5 is what I would prefer if I was new to swapping engines. Besides I have an h22a motor with a B series transmission, h2b to be exact.

On this I am not looking to spend over 3k for everything and obviously the cheaper the better.

Also how much harder is the h23 swap with the b series goodies? Tranny linkage, h2b swap and axles?

i never liked the idea of an H swap let alone an H2B. but you make great power and high torque numbers. its all preference. if you want a high reving motor go with the ITR obviously and for a torque monster go for the H series.

The H22 swap in an EK is not really worth it. Torque or not, the K series has gone down in price enough to never justify an H swap. B series in an EK is easy, a great learners swap. The H swap is a hassle, and if you don't do the H2B, is about the same amount of work as a K swap, except your stuck with an inferior motor that hasnt been in production for 10 years.

While I agree that the H-series swap is a lot of work compared to a K-series swap, and it does leave a lot to be desired as far as axle angles go. I really wouldn't say the H-series is any worse than the K-series, and H22/H23 swaps are downright cheap, K-series is still expensive unless you really get a deal.

if your not looking to spend more then 3000 go with the b18c1...cause you will want a motor that is legit and know that it will run right when you throw it in...so you will prolly be buying it from a shop or someone that still has the swap in the car..

I have an ITR motor in my EK. its pretty nice but I do miss torque...only thing I dont like about the H23 is the FRM cylinder walls. other than that its not too much different than B series honestly , correct me please if I am wrong maybe I need to learn something new today. anyways , K series is getting cheaper and cheaper , thats because more and more people realize you have to get the shifter cables all right , and do the wiring which can be a bitch for beginners , on top of learning a completely different motor that uses balance shafts and timing chains and such. I do preffer K series over all because of the k20z3 , theres magical gypsy tears in there , I swear. everything about it is smooth as silk , my ITR motor is nice and freshly rebuilt , and although refined its just not the same. In the end I dont have an opinion but take my info with a grain of salt and choose wisely my friend.
