$6000 what to do?
i just sold my car and want a 99-00 civic. i was thinking about buying the single cam to drive around until i found a good deal on a motor. whats the best motor/tranny to put in this car if i wanted to go NA. is that all i need is a motor and a tranny to do the swap? thanks for your help i am a newbie.

b16a ,b16b or b18c1, b18c5
since your budget is $6000..b18c1 is ideal
basically the compelte swap will come with everything ..all the wires..connectors..sensors...harness..ecu..intake and exhaust manifolds.dizzy..alternator.. it depends on what it comes with.but u will need axles...motor mounts..throttle cable...shift linkage
if u know how to do the swap by yourself.if not ..shop charges around $500~$700 for labor to do the swap.

For NA I would go with an LSvtec build or B18c1 (GSR). For that year you will need the motor, trans, mounts, axles, shift linkage, ECU, harness etc etc.
I would buy the car first and see what kind of deal you get and how much money is left over. From there you can tell us your budget and whp goals so we can better assist you.

He has to buy the car too. $6000 is not enough for a 99+ Civic and a B18C1.
Newbie, read the stickied threads at the top of the forum here - particularly the "What swaps are available for my Civic one - and you'll see many threads with the pros and cons of each engine you can swap. It'll take a couple hours, but the information is comprehensive enough that you'll be a non-newb in no time

If your planning to build the motor i'd say throw in the b18c1, its a good power plant to start out with. You can boost or go n/a with this motor and still come up with good #'s. If your planning on keeping the motor fairly stock with just bolt ons in mind, then the b18c5 is def the right choice.

a b18c5 type r complete swap will cost u around $4500 ...it is usually sold with tranny and motor with all the harness and sensors..and about labor..it took me and my buddy 8 hours a day for 2 days to do the swap with hand tools in my home garage and another 10 hours to put back every little parts by myself...

what you could do is find a 99-00 civic with high miles or a shell for 3000 or less. then with the other 3000 get a B16 or B18 swap
high mileage isnt a problem because your taking out the engine/tranny anyways.

then again, high mileage could also lead to suspension problems, and other minor electrical problems, but anyway... i'd say get a gsr, or b16, and put in a i/e/h, mild cam, high comp pistons, and call it a day.

Yeah, you're about as bright as a dead cat. You can't TOUCH a K swap for under 8k just for the swap, he has 6k TOTAL budget including the shell, and you're touting a K swap?
Fack. Jump off the bandwagon already.

It all depends on the tune, the parts you put into it, and whether or not you boost. Do a google search for "LSVTEC dyno", "LS/VTEC dyno, and "LS VTEC dyno".
I've seen a few dynos of NA lsvtec motors making ~ 200 whp and 150 tq, or you could also do a crvtec (b20 engine, vtec head), which will up your torque slightly.

lol you can K swap for less than 8K... but still we are talking like 5-6K minimum, and thats probably for a A3 or something

Probably true on that, I was assuming the top model, which is ~5500 for motor/tranny/ecu and non of the other goodies or labor...

No "newb" is going to want to do this
I'd say Bseries VTEC with no builds. Or just buy a car that's already modded.
