Knock sensor question
Have a 91 crx with jdm b16a obd0 pr3. check engine light came out.. Code 23. Knock sensor. Looked at sensor, it dry rotted and came apart. Went to a buddies house, he had a knock sensor laying around, I think its off a single cam y8 though. However, it threaded in and plugged up and what not. Drove car around and CEL was gone. Now the CEL is back for the same thing, knock sensor. Are single cam knock sensors interchangable with obd0 b16 knock sensors? Also, would a clogged exhaust cause knock sensor code? The car has a clogged exhaust -.-
Yes, the sensor is interchangeable. Yes, if the exhaust (I assume you mean catalytic converter) is plugged up, it will cause knock like a bish! Unbolt the cat and punch it out! Be sure to remove all of the catalyst material or you'll have some annoying exhaust rattles.
I did that, but I think the resinstaor or the muffler is clogged as well. The exhaust is really old and used to be hooked up to a single cam with bad rings that smoked like a bia.
Haha, I can't imagine the amount of oil blow by it would take to completely clog an exhaust system all the way back to the muffler. Lol, I would try unbolting the exhaust right after the cat and see how it runs then and go from there.
What would cause the ECU to throw knock sensor code? I know " knock " is combustion in the cusbustion chamber before the piston reaches TDC, my question is, what would cause this? I tried another knock sensor that my friend had laying around and im still getting a code 23. The sensor he gave me may not be good I guess, but what else would cause the ecu to throw this code? Vtec still works fine everytime.
Well if you keep getting a knock sensor you either A) Have engine knock! B) Have a bad sensor (which I doubt has been the case 3 times) C) Have a problem with your knock sensor wiring (which I also doubt is your problem unless voltage is somehow being induced into the wire)
LOTS of things could cause engine knock. Check out your plugs and see what they look like. Also, you should definately be able to hear engine knock. Either that or you have EXTREME vibration for some reason
