Default knock sensor question

ok i had all my codes gone and everything was fixed, then i was driving and the CEL came on again. it turned out to be the knock sensor throwing a code. so i go home and check everything and its all hooked up fine. drive around for about five minutes and it pops on again. this has been going on for the last two days, its been off and on. but everything works fine. it still goes into VTEC and everything. the question is, is this hurting performance at all? does the knock sensor throwing a code make it go into limp mode. its not on when i start the car and its not on when i turn the key on. it only comes on after i drive for a few minutes. whats going on?

Knock Sensor = a piezoelectric microphone that is especially tuned to pickup engine vibrations created by knock (also called detonation or ping). The sensor has a 3/8" NPT thread for attachment to the engine block or cylinder head. Above approximately 5000 rpm, however, this knock may be masked by mechanical noise and is disabled.
