First pic is the evap purge solenoid. Its missing the top cover, JDM engines don't have them, but they can be added by drilling a taping a couple of holes on the back of the intake manifold

Second pic appears to be whats left of a knock sensor

Third pic is the coolant temperature switch

k the first one is the EVAP purge. the second one looks sketch lol. third one looks like fan switch or water temp. the fourth on is the hose that goes to ur EVAP purge OR charcoal canister i think. i deleted my EVAP purge cuz we dont have emissions in hawaii.

knock sensor goes on the back of the block, you will need a new one
coolant temperature switch threads into the head under the distributor
If the engine is jdm don't worry about the purge solenoid, if its USDM it attaches to the back of the intake manifold.

How exactly did this stuff end up where it is anyway if you don't mind me asking?

on that temp sensor there should be one on the head and another on the thermostat housing.... just follow your UPPER radiator hose toward the engine and where it clamps on is where it goes....

Lol, damn what a mess!

3rd pic is def the Engine Coolant Temp sensor, not the sending unit. I know on my B20, it screws into the thermostat housing. Some housings have a port for it there, some do not. If yours doesn't, I suggest you find one that does. While you're in there, you might as well replace your thermostat and gasket also. And don't forget to hook the ground wire back up to the housing. Good luck, looks like fun! It appears they used a clutch slave cylinder push rod to plug that hose in the 4th pic, lulz.

Edit: Oh yea, don't worry about the knock sensor in the 2nd pic. P28 doesn't look for a knock sensor.

It's wired because when I turn my car on it still reads the temp on the cluster...

For pic number 4 where does that connect to ?

Also my Vtec doesn't kick it and my oil pan is beat up can that be the problem ?

Ok, your temp gauge reads from said sending unit that's bolted to the head under the distributor. Your ECU reads coolant temp from the ECT sensor that screws into the thermostat housing. Your VTAK isn't working because the ECU is not seeing that the car is warmed up because your ECT is not sending it a reading because it's not screwed into the thermostat housing as it should be.

Edit: Don't worry about pic 4 atm. You will probably be able to cap that port off anyways.

Here's the best I could find with a quick search:

I know that's not your motor, but it gives a good idea. Notice how the radiator hose attaches to the thermostat housing. See the ECT sensor screwed into the housing.

This just illustrates the differences in the possible housings. When I built my B20VTEC, I had to use the B20's thermostat housing to screw in the ECT sensor because the B20 bottom end didn't have anywhere on the block for it. My old B16 motor did, so its housing didn't have a port for the ECT sensor.

And here's a pic of the temperature sending unit on the head, not to be confused with the ECT sensor. This is where the reading on your temp gauge comes from.

I hope all this helps.

Wait when did they stop emissions in Hawaii?

Don't they still do inspections? When I lived there I had to get my car inspected every year and once I had a hole in my muffler I didn't pass emissions.

Did they change the law?

I don't think so. Try disconnecting the VTEC oil pressure sensor.

It can be depending on where its dented, if the oil pan is dented where the pickup for the oil pump is you may not be getting enough oil pressure for vtec to operate. The pan runs quite close to the pickup btw.
