- I hear a ticking noise near my crank pulley. What could it be?
I have a stock 99 honda CRV with a b20z2 motor. The head was gone so I replaced it with a p8r head. It runs great and no check engine lights. But now I hear a ticking noise near my crank pulley. I already did valve adjustment. What could it be?
What it looks and sounds like:
Sounds like a tick kinda like a knock near my crank pulley. It's not a fast tick like valves either. I hope its not a knock.
I'm looking at the crank pulley and it seems like its vibrating kinda weird on idle.
Things I did:
Replace head with p8r
Had the head resurfaced
New headgasket
New timing belt
New water pump
New crank seal
Did valve adjustment
A/c, powersteering, and alternator belt is all on
I haven't done ignition timing yet but tried my best to put it in the same position. Could this be the problem?

Yes it does however Im going to double check it tomorrow by taking off the valve cover and the top timing belt cover. The b20z motors have an auto tensioner. All you do is put the belt on, loosen the tensioner a bit, then turn the crank pulley counter clockwise about 3 teeth from the bottom TDC mark. Thats it! it gets tight on its own then you tighten the tensioner after.
So do you think my tensioner failed? I forgot to mention but its a brand new tensioner. Which cover is the belt smacking? the side cover or the valve cover etc??? I don't understand.
btw just to let you guys know this isn't my first head swap or timing belt job. I'm quiet experienced but the noise is just weird to me.

^It's smaking the plastic cover that hides the pulley assembly and belt itself. Idk if yours failed but he put two brand spanking new ones in from Advance auto and they both failed within weeks. It goes, clack, clack, clack. Not too fast like a knock but in a rhythmic time that's fairly fast but not extremely fast, you know? When the tensioner fails, the pulley loosens and the belt gets slack, letting it smack the plastic cover.

btw so the brand new tensioners failed? what do you mean by that? Couldn't he just tightened the tensioner?
