Default D16 Vitara Question

Ive searched this and read several different answers.

IVe got a d16z6 im building for turbo obv. I dont want to run gobs of boost 8 - 12 pounds, im doing a basic street tune as the nearest tune shop for hondata is like 2 1/2 hours drive. ( its not a DD car either, just a toy )

My question is b16 rods, handle 12 pounds of boost safely? ANd will they fit the z6? Ive heard yes and no. If i can use my b16 rods in the d16 and save the money from eagle rods, it'll help get it tuned correctly.

Thanks.

these rods will lower compression quiet a bit you will want to boost more then 8-12psi. a stock motor can take this much boost with no problem and make more power due tot he stock motor having more compression.

yes. they'll fit. do believe you'll need either just different pistons or supra 1gt-e ones. and yes, i just wouldn't run much more then that. posting stuff like this(even though it is in the right section sorta) would net alot more answers in the FI section.

everything i got was from a budget build page on another forum. so take this with a grain of salt im no turbo guy.

dude just get the vitara and eagle combo...for under 500 bucks and you get everything for the bottom end, then you can run some high boost

like apexi_rsx said, a stock motor can take 8-12 psi depending on the turbo size easily, in fact i knew someone with an EG coupe, stock z6 that ran 10.5psi daily out of a 14b only because his map sensor was maxxed out.....you are wasting precious money by doing a build just to run 8-12psi especially using vitara pistons

Check the Forced Induction bottom-end kits.

I got mine from ebay...not all stuff from there is chinese junk....to give you a perspective on boost I'm running 20psi out of a 57 trim turbo...the turbo is what you go off of as far as boost....I would get them off FJ distributors, though I do think he has an ebay store also

What about Scat rods or FJ Distributor's custom length rods? You might be able to find those cheaper than Eagle rods. The FJ custom length rods will also raise you compression a little http://fjdistributors.com/index.php?cPath=58

And PSI doesn't mean anything, when you talk about limits. 12 psi with one turbo is different than 12 psi with another. Every engine is different, even if you use the same parts as someone else. So claiming a setup can handle a certain psi, is nonsense. What you need to think about is a horsepower goal as well as a limit for certain parts.

as i said vitaras with stock rods lowers compression almost near 7:5 because they dont reach the top of the block deck. custom length rods will bump it back up to stock compression almost. most people have found that facing the arrow on the pistons toward the flywheel seems to work best with this setup. hope it helps and goodluck. ive been saving my money for arias or wiesco pistons.

I dont want to raise compression, i want the low compression

I have no Hp Goal yet as i dont have a dyno to tune it correctly im doing a drive and tune kind of thing. I dont know alot about tuning it but ive been taught how to do a street tune.

i just want to run enough pounds to keep it running good. No racing or anything like that yet. IM just knocking out the motor work, before i start on suspension and stuff.

Okay we're way off topic now.

Still wondering how much "HP" Can b16 rods handle with vitara piston setup.

( Any links to a combo of rods + vitara pistons would be helpful, Just so i can check out the prices )

i would not do this with a d series motor the wrist pins would need machined to fit like using ls rods in a d series block. you would be better off buying eagle rods and save the money from machining ur pistons to fit stock b16 rods. i had my motor build with ls rods and the wrist pins slid into my cylinder walls because the builder did not put wrist pin locks in. b series motors have been known to take 300hp but not much more. eagle rods could do 400+. id just buy rods. 7:5 compression ratio would be very low and require alot more boost then if u were at 9:0 compression
