If i pull the ex spoiler off my 96 civic will the si spoiler bolt into the same holes? or how much work am i looking at for that swap?

 

Not sure what you mean by "Si spoiler". If yer talkin' about the higher spoiler, then it's not an Si spoiler, it's just a factory option. I had an EX with the high spoiler and see them on alot of EX and even DX trim levels.

To answer your question, the mounting points should be the same....

 

Low Spoiler = 96-98
High Spoiler = 99-00

No trim level involved.

What you have stated is misinformation, so please don't say you corrected it.

There is no "low" spoiler for 99-00 coupes. Only for sedans.

There are some 96-98 coupes out there with the high spoiler, since it was dealer installed. Probably say the same for the low spoiler on 99-00's. A lot of dealers do some retarded crap in order to make cars more appealing and to move them off the lot.

Maybe dealers put the high spoiler on '98 model year Civics from left over inventory.. but the low spoiler was also an option in '99-'00 year models...

 

The low spoiler was an "option" on 99-00 Civic Coupes if the dealer still had them in stock and decided to put them on. They are not for 99-00's, unless you're speaking of THIS:



Which is the 99-00 Sedan spoiler, and is not the same as a 96-98 Coupe spoiler.

You seem to have this idea that a Honda dealership is akin with the Honda factory. If a dealership paints a Civic hot pink, it doesn't mean Civics came in hot pink.

 

Though I haven't tried it myself (I like my '96-'98 spoiler on my '98), I have heard from several people on this site that YES, the spoiler bolt holes are in the same place. Others have claimed to have swapped these spoilers, so I trust that well enough since I saw everyone who claimed to have tried said it worked.

As for this tall versus short nonsense:

You can go on any site like HondaPartsDeals and find the part numbers for these. I even listed the part numbers for the spoiler in my post quoted above.

'96-'98 Civic coupes had short spoilers (with long LED bars - about as wide as the license plate garnish).

'99-'00 Civic coupes had tall spoiler (with short LED bars.

All spoilers were optional. Even the Si came standard without a spoiler at all.

ANYONE can put a tall spoiler on a '96-'98 or a short spoiler on a '99-'00 (hell, you could bolt a coupe spoiler to a hatch but it won't make it an optional hatch accessory).

I've seen some '96-'98s (most likely '98s for the most part) with tall spoilers (also seen sedans with the newer spoilers). This was probably done to move inventory. If a dealership has 1998 coupes sitting on the lot when 1999 models are coming in then they try to make the cars more appealing to get them moved off the lot aka. "sold".

Making a new, but old stock, car more appealing can include several things. Wheels that are already at the dealership might be added, the car will be washed up fresh, the price might get marked down by a good bit and other accessories already in stock at the dealership might be added. When someone sees they could get a brand new 1999 Honda Civic DX coupe for $15,400 or they could get a brand new, but been sitting on the lot for a year 1998 Honda Civic DX coupe with a spoiler and CD player for $13,800, a lot of people are going to go for that 1998.

Believe it or not, most normal people don't care about the '99-'00 front end.

But yes, the low spoiler is originally for '96-'98 coupes and the tall spoiler was originally for '99-'00 coupes.

You can continue thinking they were for all years, but you'd be wrong. Sorry.

Taffeta White and Flamenco Black Pearl were offered for both years on coupes, so those are good place to start looking for differences. Clover Green Pearl would obviously be a different part number than Cypress Green Pearl, for example.

Yes the mounting holes are the same. I have a 00 ex coupe and i went to the lower 96-98 spoiler. I was able to bolt the spoiler on easily the only thing i had to modify is the wiring for the led in it. The wiring for the led is the same but they are on opposite sides. I just ran the wiring so it was on the correct side.

You should get the JDM 99-00 Sedan spoiler if you want a tall spoiler.

Thanks buddy, yeh I did think about that option as a similar (it might even be the same) high-rise wing came out on the 96-98 JDM Ferio Si model; but I just thought it looked a little high IMO.

I have a Mugen Ferio wing for weekends/street but during weekdays/parking on the road I wanted something a little less 'attention getting' so that's why I was heading down the Vi-RS spoiler road...

who knows lol - unless you're goin pretty quick I doubt they're going to do much in terms of aerodynamics. But everything probably works together front spoiler, side skirts, wing etc

Agreed. Aerodynamics (ie air flow) I think there is some merit in manufacturer spoilers/wings; performance wise tho (downforce etc) - probably not so much...

 

i have a civic without a spoiler, thinking about adding one, a buddy of mine told me that there are pre-set holes under the trunk. Is any of that true??

 

Look to see if your trunk has dimples. My Civic has a spoiler, so I couldn't check for you.

Just pop the trunk and look for two dimples on the outer corners of the trunk lid.

The spoiler mounts on the trunk lid on the OUTSIDE of the rubber seal. (A stock spoiler, for this reason, will never cause leaks into the trunk.) There are two bolts on either side, plus a hole for the wiring on one side. The wiring for the '96-'98 coupe spoiler goes through the passenger side. I believe the wiring for the '99-'00 coupe spoiler goes through the driver side, but I could be wrong as the spoiler I had as an example was a replica.

You can also get directions for installing any optional US parts from your Honda dealership. They print them out right there for you, free of charge.
