Default d16y8 help

wats up ht. i got a 00 civic d16y8 motor...my motor started knockin and i have everything new exept pistons and rods...i wanted to bump compression up a little bit.. needed help on which ones to choose...got good deals on a very clean block and crank and rebuilt head.... im on a budget thats y a swap wasnt a option for me... wanted to know if theres any good oem pistons to bump up compression a little if not ima jus stick to the p2p pistons...ive been doing alot of research and it seems y8s arent really compatable wit no other pistons but wanted to make sure before i go all oem... if anyone can help id appreciate it

Already looked into em... And yea there cheap but the p29 valve reliefs are smaller than the y8 valves and will have 2 b machined to fit... And this is my first build so kinda trynna stay away from 13:1 compression .. I dnt even no if that will go with pump gas... Have u heard of the Pm6 pistons? Wondering if they'll work.. Thanks for replying

i could be wrong, but from what i've heard on y8's is that any compression over about 10.5:1 will kill your D16's life.

Hmmmm that's new informationon the P29's not working in y8's...I've seen them in z6's with no problem and the only real difference between the z6 and y8 from what I gathered is the oiling system so they should work
As far as 10.5:1 or over being bad for a y8, I've never heard that....maybe if you go untuned with the higher compression but there are people that have built hybrid d16's using parts from z6's,a6's and y8's with 12.5:1 ratios.....I find all of this information a little biased.....I'd look into it a little more if I were you.....N/A dseries are uncommon so finding information is going to be hard and finding CORRECT information is gonna be a trick

Good luck though

not compatible with other pistons? What moron told you that? A y8 is compatible with EVERY PISTON for D series engines. If you want to bump the compression a little bit (into 10.X) then you should get y7 pistons. They will make your comp like 10.6. But don't expect to get really any power out of that. D series really suck in all motor form. You might get like 10HP (max) from doing that.

Yea I heard also that y8 compression shouldn't go over 10.5:1 also... And y7 pistons come with a 3.32 dish while the y8 comes with a 2.12 dished piston so I'm pretty sure that would lower my compression ... And I also plugged it in the compression calculator and it lowered it... Correct me if I'm wrong tho .. But I also found a cometic head gasket that's .014 thick which stock is .037 and would bump compression to 10.2:1 has any1 had experience with a head gasket that thick? Really appreciate the info guys

Seems to thin to me but spoke to they guy and he said it's fine on the stock motor... still hesitant bout this tho considering it's less than half of the factory size

i dont know what your talking about. While it may be more dished its 7.4mm to 6.2mm. But he compression height on the Y7 pistons is 30mm compared to 29.3mm which causes a higher compression overall. With a Y8 head gasket a Y8 head and Y7 pistons you will get about 10.25CR
