Default U.S. and J.P. built trans interchangable?

So i finally got the title for the car from the previous owner and am about to order a tranny. When i called to make the order for the 05 tranny with 44k miles he said i need to find out if the car is Japan built or U.S. built. The 05 tranny is for an EX and U.S. built, will it matter if my 01 EX is U.S. or Japan built? Also he said he can't give me a warranty since i'd use a different year than an 01 tranny, is this bull and is there a good argument to give a warranty (it will be professionally installed).

It shouldn't matter what year it's from. The 01 - 05 transmissions are the same, except that the newer (04-05) automatics are said to be more durable/reliable. You didn't specify which you needed, so I just tossed that in there. *I don't think there's a difference between being JDM and USDM, either. They're both available in the U.S.

I'd find someone else who will honor some sort of warranty. Any business that is willing to sell you a used transmission without any kind of a warranty .. well .. that's just a bit too shady for this guy.

(*correct me if I'm wrong)

I am hoping it is all the same, i am going to find out tomorrow whether this car is a U.S. or Japan built car. The transmission i found is U.S. built, he said the Japan built one is twice as much.

You can do that by checking the first three characters of your VIN.

1GH = USA
2GH = Canada
JHM = Japan

They probably used better parts than US or Canada, LOL.
