Shut down when boosted?
I'm running a newly boosted D16Y8 @ 5 PSI with NGK Iridium IX Plugs. It's completely stock otherwise. My problem is that when the boost kicks in the RPMS bog down, causing erratic IDLE. If I apply any gas the car shuts off. Once I restart the engine the erratic RPMs disappear. Anyone heard of this? Can you point me in the right direction?
Dude, you cant just slap a turbo on and expect it to run right.. I see you need alot of research and maybe soon a new engine.
Take out the iridium's, throw in NGK 4091's
Convert to OBD-1 and get a tune!

OK...I ordered the NGK 4091 Plugs from SummitRacing.com, unfortunetly none of the local auto stores carry them around here. I will get it tuned ASAP! Thanks for your help guys.
I hear you on no local stores carrying the plugs. Theres only 1 place that carrys them around me. I usually buy them out ever oil change, just because they only ever have like 8 plugs in stock!
While we are on the subject of turbos....I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for motor oils to use ( I.E. weight 5W 30 10W 40 ETC. Eneos, Torco, Royal Purple)
i use cheap oil right now just because im still tryna figure out where my oil has been going i made a homemade catch can hope thats the problem...but yeah post dyno results plz..kinda sad out of three b16 turbos mines is the slowest one aftertuned but two of my exhuast valves were a little tight
I use 10-40 on my car. I change it every 1000 miles. So as long as it has the "approved for gasoline engines" stamp, its all just about the same (conventional oil)
But make sure you change it every 1000 miles.
