tempature guage problems?
ever since i have been driving this car the temp guage hasnt been working when i drive the car around it stays all the way at cold even when the car is obviously warm, but when i go on a longer drive say drive like 60 miles the temp guage will go to the top and bounce around. Is this the thermostat? or what else could it be?
just ground out the wire that goes to the ECT sensor under dizzy. If your gauge pegs to hot your cluster and wiring is good, and its most likely the sensor itself.
i dont think its the cluster had the stock 1 in before then swapped it out for a auto cluster with a tach, i think i pulled 1 out of a z6 head a while ago but ill double check i know i had to redo the wiring for the sensor

i grounded the wire and my gauge didnt jump up so i decided to pull my harness and check all the wiring i knew it was mest up i ripped some sensor of by accident but in these pictures its the owner before me's work
My CEL is throwing a code 6 and my brother checked the wiring for me. He said it looked like someone used a speaker wire...???
Not sure what that means. How can I fix this?

You might want to consider replacing that harness. Local junk yards have them...
It is recommended to do the test, get that dusty meter out of your tool box and put it to work. I had the issue of the gauge "pinged" at H when warmed up. Did the tests and confirmed that the gauge was bad. From discussing the issue with the past owner (sister), I found out that there were electrical dash issues AFTER some stole the radio.

i had this problem too, and as several folks have mentioned: ground the sensor.
i took a length of wire, 10gauge if i recall, stripped one end of it so i had like 2 inch of exposed copper, wound that around the very base of the threads and soldered it there. on the other end of the wire i soldered on a grounding eyelet thing and ran that up to the valve cover to the same post which is grounded to the chassis.
works now.

Three ways of fixing this getting a aftermarket tempature gauge, redo the wiring yourself, or just swap out the harness remember it is a difference between dpfi harness's and mpfi harness's
