That would defeat the point of having a catch can

To understand what a catch can is for, you have to understand what the pcv valve does. When the pressure in the crank case is too great, the pcv valve opens to vent vapors. The stock system vents the vapors straight back to the intake. The idea of a catch can is to catch the vapors, not allowing them to reach the intake. So having a system that leads the oil back to the motor would defeat the purpose of the catch can.

ok that make since but whats with the catch cans that have a drain back to them??? so what ur saying tho is i can block off the the hole for the black box and just tap the valve cover and be done short of getting the catch can and running the lines..

ok well i guess im just not really grabing the consep of the set up very well. ive seen so set up with the hole blocked off and the 2 frezze out plugs in the back and fittings on them. im really getting kinda confused on this now. i know it can be better to run these set up once ur in higher amounts of boost so what is the best setup to run and how to install it.

basically the pcv valve relieves the built up gases inside of the block, with out it you will experience all sorts of problems with blow by through the rings, trust me i know. I just swapped a b18a1 into a crx and it blew all sorts of smoke, i replaced the rings, head gasket and valve seals only to find out it was a plugged pcv line. Basically if you were to install a catch can on your b18 you would put your input line on the back of the block where the stock one is, your output to the intake, and have it drian into where that big hole is on the bottom of the block, so you would have to get a fitting in there to adapt it. I wouldnt reccomend putting one in though because that big black box on the back of the engine is a factory catch can, and works quite well. If your having problems with it, take it off and clean it. Replace the pcv valve and be on your way.

no im not have any problems out of mine beside the fact i need to pull the black boxs off and put a new o ring on it. really i was just trying to up grade everything i can. just thought a catch can would be a good up grade to the motor. but i guess not.

As far as I can tell, a catch can is a good addition. just don't delete the PCV valve.
This is me talking, knowing nothing about this stuff... just to let everyone know.
So with a PCV valve, there should be the output on it that goes into the intake, correct?
So hook a catch can up to that???
I have no idea. Just my .02

there is a hose from the valve cover to the intake thats your pcv you can run a catch can in line on that hose to catch those vapors from going back into the motor bc they can lower your octane levels thats why on highly boosted setups its done alot but to look cleaner ppl delete that hose all together and just move it to 2 tapped fittings on the valve cover with the option of a drain back to the block or vent to the atmosphere which is illegal the black box is usually kept with that setup or you can just keep the stock pcv setup and run the catch can on the block with those 2 fittings but they push oil into it so it requires a drain back to the oil pan

I've never installed a catch can, and I understand what they are saying. I'm not even that motor-educated to be honest.

Read EVERYTHING in this thread : https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/official-k-i-s-s-diy-forced-induction-greddy-nrg-cathcan-install-b16-b17-b18-1490117/

Then ask a question.

They tap the valve cover probably to relocate the PCV valve, simply for engine dress up???
