modifying stock GSR shifter
by making the ball on the shifter a lil higher than stock...it requires cutting and welding...it'll cost you the same as one of those cheap shifters on ebay....thing is that the two cuts have to be parallel to each other or else the shifter will sit crooked when installed...good luck!

What people used to do is just use a hacksaw and cut off the top part of the shifter where the **** screws on to. Be sure to leave some space before the curved part or you won't have any area for the shift **** to re-attach to. Then get a MOMO type shifter that uses screws to hold it in place since the threads are gone. And there you have it, a low-buck short shifter. It's a lot less hassle than having to re-weld parts. If you are going to go that far, just buy a short shifter and don't waste your time. I'd recommend a billet steel as opposed to a billet aluminum shifter. The aluminum shifters have been known to break. Skunk 2 or Neuspeed are the best steel ones, maybe the only ones?

for telling people to not follow that link.
To each his/her own of course...but a shorter shift rox. It's not like the teg has a really long throw stock, but there is no downside to a shorter shifter, assuming it's done properly. I have one of the cheapo billet alluminum ones, I can't see breaking it ever, unless you were driving like an ape...in which case I'd have little sympathy. Watch now I'll break mine and have to eat those words.

I just installed a Konig short shifter I found on ebay. and now it feels like its hard sometimes grinding 4th gear and I will somties grind second if shifting fast. anyone heard of this. I also spaced out the shifter where it bolts inthe linkage to take upthe space
My friends custom shifter has the **** at stock height and the throw is only about an inch....its impossible to miss a shift that way...and the stock integra shifter is stronger than the aluminum shifters out there....this same friend broke 3 of them already cause we both powershift/speed shift...and its also the weight of our *****...jdm itr **** and skun2 ***** are perfect for short shifters if you understand that whole momentum inertia crap....it works!
Do NOT do this. The douchebag that had my GSR before me did this and the welds didn't hold, and for the longest time (i don't know if any of you remember)... i was posting asking about these weeeeeeeird things that were happening with my shifter.
Moral of the story... just buy one.

Proper welds should be stronger then the original metal. If it breaks it should break NEAR a weld not at it. I'd not shorten one that way either, but if I did, I'm confident it wouldn't break at a weld.

what is the actual throw lenght for a stock GSR shifter, my jdm teg supposedly comes with a short shift from the factory, the throw from 1st to 2nd gear is about 3" long..is that the same as USDM GSRs?? i wouldnt mind it being a little shorter, and would consider getting a short throw kit if it is possible to shorten it
Yeah, my friend's "short shifter" didn't break at the weld, but the screw that he used to weld the shifter together. My friend is one strange f*ck.
