Hood won't close shut

I know the hood latch cable is bad. going to order one soon. what is the actual part that causes the hood not to close? the part on the hood or the part on that T-frame looking thing.
both there is not a part prevents it closing, there is actually two part that work together a male spring and piston (hood) and on the t bar its a female reciever and a latching lever that is release with the cable. just take a look and imagine how they work its probably misaligned the the whole unit is semi adjustable. gl
