Hey I have everything apart and I want to clean up some parts and paint them before putting everything back together.

I want to paint..
intake manifold
head
transmission
block
valve cover

I'm trying to figure out which parts get too hot for regular paint.

block, head, and valve cover probably deserve heat paint.

but how hot do the transmission and intake manifold get?

trying to save money and not go overkill on paint.

I have used standard engine enamel on my intake manifold, valve cover, misc brackets, and transmission.. You're going to need to get something very good for high heat or even looking into coating the block and head

 

I used standard Rustoleum oil-based gloss paint on a valve cover once. When the car warmed up, so did the paint. It would look normal, and it would cool off and stay lookin normal when the motor cooled, but if you touched the valve cover when the motor was running, you'd have paint on your finger and a smudge on the block.

just wonderin how hot the tranny and intake manifold get. The block/head/valve cover will need heat paint to do the job right.

Yes, any paint that's called engine enamel is made for high heat, as engines get so hot. I painted my exhaust manifold with it and it still looks good a couple years later.

I will use heat paint for all of it. I suspect the transmission will be getting just as hot as the head/valve cover/block. The intake manifold will get heat paint as well, just to be on the safe side.

you can get the paint from wal-mart just make sure you get under coat as well also high temp

have to add one it can be done tastefully imo the paint on my exhaust mani lasted for a good 2 years i used 500F paint

I've had the VHT high heat exhaust paint on my header for a little while, and it seems to be holding up well. The trick to it is to follow the directions on the can for the curing procedure. It says something like put the header on the car, and let it idle for 10 minutes. Then cool it off completely and let it idle for 20 minutes. Then let it cool off completely, then go for a drive.

I didn't follow that procedure the first time I painted my header, and it all flaked off in a few weeks. The second time I did it right, and it's still there.

As far as valve cover, I painted it with Rustoleum wrinkle red, and it looks good. I've I've done random brackets, wiper arms, and whatnot with rustoleum satin black with good results. I highly recommend their self-etching primer first, as it seems to make paint adhere better.

i just

used some 1.5 dollar paint and it work for 6 month now on h22 civic

the car is red the engine bay is black and the engine tranny is sliver and vc is red

wires cover black

all them with the 1.5 dollar paint normal one


that is just me bc in our city there is now engine enamel heat

i dont know how the hell people repaint perfectly in between the little letters without using chemicles. I now hate the letter O.

 

You don't. You paint over the letters, wait for the paint to dry, then mask around the letters and sand the paint off. At least, that's what I do.

 

i use a belt sander to grind paint off the faces of the letters. or sandpaper wrapped around a chunk of wood.

 

ive painted mine with some ordinary primer from a spray can, will it just come straight off with the heat?

 

hah i just taped my letters and cut out the insides with those little art razors, like a box knife. paint the remove tape and there they are all nice and silver.

cept the . after CO was a PITA.

 

I Use Blue Masking tape and a small rubber mallet lightly tap the tape on the edges and it cuts the letters out perfect.

 

this 100%. takes 5 min to get the paint off the letters with a dremel. It's easy to polish them for a nice shine too.
