Can't fix my AC
Hello everyone, I've just joined the forum. I've searched about my problem and can't find the "right" answer although I've found suggestions and tried them. I have a 2006 Civic LX that I bought with a rebuilt title with just 14k miles. I think that the condensor and compressor had been replace in the rebuild so I'm not sure about their age. It now has 65k miles and the AC has quit working. About a month ago the compressor started not engaging as often. Not like when it cycles on and off like it should but it was not coming on for entire trips. Then later it would work. During my investigation I discovered that the coolant pressure senor was corroded and and one of the pins had rusted through. So I bought the sensor and replaced it. In the process I lost a lot of pressure in the system so I had it recharged at Express Oil Change. Now the compressor comes on for about ten seconds when the car starts and then won't come on again. I've tried jumping out the switch but it doesn't help. Obviously the clutch works because it'll come on for the first ten seconds fine. Most of the info I've found is for older civics so I need some help with this one. I hate to take it in when it sounds like just an electrical problem. I know on the older civics there was trouble with the sensor on the compressor and problems with the clutch relay. I can't find a wiring diagram for this car or I'd try to further diagnose the problem with that. Any suggestions? THANKS
Could be over-charged. Did you have the system checked at another place yet?
As simple as it sounds, you could just pay Honda the $60 diagnostic fee to figure out what they think is wrong?

either the a/c system is over charged.... or there is a leak and its now at the point to where the system has enough to kick on then stop but not stay on..... a good set of a/c gauges will be helpfull
Thank you to everyone for your input. I finally took it to the dealership as recommended ($130 around here not $60), and they've told me it's the "electronic control module" and it's going to cost $850 to replace and reprogram it. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I don't have $850 at the moment so I'm going to go pick it up today and wait a little while. Any suggestions? I'm afraid I'm stuck until I'm ready to cough up $850. Bummer!
if it is your ecm that is bad, it is best to get it replaced at the dealership because it will have to be programmed to your car. you dont want to get it done somewhere else and then have to get your car towed to the dealership to get programmed.
have you checked it for being over-charged?
