its normal if its cold. its called choke. it idles that high so it can warm up faster and drop to normal idling rpm.

I live up here in the 'frozen north' and every morning when I start my TW FA5, it runs up to 2k rpms for about 20 seconds, and then cycles down. This is normal, don't sweat it. And to clarify, it isn't freezing cold here all the time, we saw 68 degrees today...

The amount time spent at 2K is dependent upon how cold the ambient temperature is. For me, cold start consist of 33 F where my motor will idle at ~1500-1800 for a few minutes.

I love when people ask a technical question and add non pertinent information in.

Thanks, special indeed... I bought the car in February and found that it idles at 2k every morning for me, regardless of the temperature... when it is warm, it idles that high for a shorter period of time, and when it gets colder, it will do so for a little longer. I am not a post *****, I live in a country where winter is a fact of life for a long time each year, and I have learned that cold engines run at high idle to warm up. This is what I know, not non-pertinent info. The guy asked why his engine runs high for a spell... I answered it.

He wasn't referring to your post about non-pertinent info. We found that the OP had to mention his wheels when they were not pertinent to his idling question.

he is right the car idles to warm up, but not really the engine. The car idles high to warm up the catalytic converter to get it up to operating temperatures.
