Icon2 blown hole through block, head still good?

my buddy blew up his del sol with an ls, a hole right through the engine block. now im going about fixing it for him, i figure he'll need a new block, the head should still be okay. the timing belt didnt snap or anything, the head should be good, right?

extremely unlikely. once the rod broke it's almost a guarantee the piston went flying right into the valves and destroying the head in the process.

X2, IMO that is the likely scenario.

my buddy had the same problem with his LS. he lucked out and the head was still fine. it all depends on if the rod that broke was on an up stroke or a down stroke, but in most cases the head was probably hit with the piston. all you can do is tear it all apart and hope for dumb luck....

You have to remove the head anyway. Send it to a machine shop for inspection.
