I found a LS motor that is already been to the machine shop, but it is already 83mm. I also know when i add a block guard that i will have to re-bore it. Just wondering if any one here is running 20+ psi on a stock sleeved b20 or 84mm LS with stock sleeves. I am gonna be looking for about 550+ whp out of this engine on e85. Any adivice would help

 

20 lbs is alot for a b20 or 84 ls with stock sleeves, blockguards dont really do anything. but its all about how much horsepower the stock sleeves can handle not about boost. motors break from horsepower the boost creates not the boost itself and 20lbs is different on every turbo.

 

Ive seen an ls make 600 on stock sleeves and stock bore but that was really pushing it so if you do make your goal i dont think it will stay together long

 

i have a friend that makes 550 and the engine has lasted a long time. He breaks trannys but he is not at that big of a bore. He is only like 81.5mm and low compression and 25 psi in a LS vtec. Thats another thing i forgot to say its gonna have a gsr head and probably 10:1 compression. so i dont have to run as much boost. The car is also already on aem ems and has a sc61, so im not gonna be that guy with a 16g and on crome shooting for that high of power goal.

 

your still missing the point. its about horsepower not boost.

 

no such thing as an 84mm ls with stock sleeves.

 

the service limit on a ls block for boring of the STOCK sleeves is 82mm, you cant run a non-sleeved 84mm ls, only b20 because it's stock bore is 84mm vs a ls's 81mm stock. just to clear up your confusion.

 

FIRST:
please do me a favor and read my entire first post that started the thread. I said a hp goal of 550+. I used the boost level as an example of where I thought I would be. Say that boost level doesnt matter, what horsepower matters. Then address my question. That is like you saying that your clutch is slipping and me telling you that you need to paint your car. Just going in to things that are not really the issue.

Second:
I was under the impression that a B20 was identical to 84mm LS. I guess people have been blowing smoke up my a$$ for a while. Since you say an LS is only servicable to 82mm is it the same for a b18c? Would I be able to get my goal out of an 82mm or would the cylinder walls be to thin to handle the combustion pressure of the 550+whp? I dont want to sleeve it because if i do i will want more power and it already a task to drive when it starts raining when I am out and about and it only puts out 379whp.

 

For stroke yes. But telling someone that one has an 84mm LS, is different than stating they have a b20. Different impression is given. 550whp should be sleeved REGARDLESS if you're asking these quesetions regarding your power goal

I make 438hp on stock sleeve ls vtec @14psi for about a year.About to turn it up to see if it will hold 500 to 550 we shall see.

 

Great, another noob ricer in Tampa that knows nothing about cars and is trying to build a motor....

 

Any standards of what people did with "stock" sleeves still wouldn't apply to you because this LS block has been bored over to 83mm. Paper thin. I would just either find another motor or resleeve the entire thing before investing into any real power goals at this point. you'd just be wasting your time with trying get a lot of power out of that using a turbocharger.

 

Your LS can be bore out to 87mm on stock sleeves, try that and report back! lol

 

Yea exactly or see if you cant find a good stock 81mm ls block and use that. 550whp is alot but if it is built correctly, and has a really good tune you should be ok. Also I didnt see this mentioned but you are going to be using forged pistons and rods correct?

Honda sleeves are aluminum with a, i believe its, iron lining on the inside and when you bore the cylinder you make that lining thin. Also B20s wont handle as much turbo HP as a LS due to there cylinder design just an fyi if you were leaning that way.
