Default 99 civic si, overheating problem, Help!

Hi,

I noticed last night on my drive home that my temps were getting high so I switched off the AC and kicked the heater full blast to make it home. Temps dropped and I made it home fine.

There are no CEL's, or Check engine lights.

Both the radiator and AC fan work/kick on when they should.

I just flushed the radiator, put in new coolant, and replaced the thermostat.

Idleing it is fine, but when i get out onto my street the temp starts to shoot up.

What would my next plan of action be? I really need my car working here soon haha!

Let me know if you have any ideas?!

just double checked everything and bled the coolant.

Still overheating, more so when I turn the AC on.

your water pump might be going bad... or your thermo might be stuck...

OP said he just replaced the thermostat so i doubt it is stuck open but it COULD be a possibility. Does it over heat when you are cruisin around just chillin on it or when you get on it? leaking coolant anywhere? how do your coolant levels look at the end of the day?

I had the same problem with my Si, whenever i would get anywhere NEAR vtec my temp gauge would literally SHOOT UP just like that. i was leakin coolant on the cam gear side from inbetween the block and head so i think my head was warped but i just recently dropped two valves in my b16 before i could figure it out .... oh well, it was time for an upgrade for me anyways lol

post back and we will see if we can get this figured out bro

X2, its worth a try it wont cost you any money to check it out bc when you return the tool they give you your money back. start with the cheapest AND simplest stuff first in the hopes that one of those will fix it; if so, you just saved yourself a ton of money and a big headache. you wouldnt believe how easy a $5 cap can ruin your day.

true! its always the smallest cheapest parts that go wrong! the ones you never look for! if your cap is going bad it should blow some steam when it gets hot

A compression test, and a leakdown test moreso, could help in deciding if your head gasket is toast. But then again so could checking your oil and coolant for milkshake goodness!
