I called A&H Motorsports in PA but they said they 've never done one before and don't want to touch it. Then I told them it's the same as installing an ITR LSD. They said they 've never done one of those either! These guys love to sell you all kinds of aftermarket stuff and claim they 're an Acura Authorized repair & service shop but don't know how to install an LSD and are afraid to do it!
They call themselves mechanics because they can do tune ups, brakes and oil changes..
Where did you guys have your LSDs installed and who would you recommend?

thanks illusion. I 'm pretty sure I called them a few weeks ago and they told me they were mainly a Toyota & Mazda (RX7?) shop. I 'd like to go to a Honda/Acura shop if I can.
I 'll look for Kaztech's # and call them. I could be mistaken. Hackensack is perfect for me.

DRT in Queens installed mine. Seems fine to me.
I would go to RPMNYC.com and have them do it. They do nothing but hondas and acuras. They built my engine.
Just a long line to get into both shops. But DRT did mine in a day so they might be able to do it anytime.

Harry, this is Kev. My tranny is in and out at least three four times last few months just to try out different LSD. Installation is just the same...type r, quaife, kaaz and Ats etc. for quaife you use the stock bolts just like the Type r. For installation, I go to my friend's shop at Dear park, LI call TNT. Their normal rates for installing an LSD is around $400.

thanks Kevin!
What's is your friend's ph# at his shop? $400 sounds good to me. Don't I have to buy a bearing or something too that needs to be replaced?

Thanks, I 've run into a couple of problems with DRT so I don't think I 'm going back there. They 're good with many things but not that great with others plus I don't like the mechanic working on my car being sorrounded by 20 people that are just there to hang out and BS.
I 've been to RPM for suspension stuff but their rates are pretty high and they quoted me like $550-600 for the LSD labor the last time I was there.
Plus I 'm a little pissed at them right now, because I have a suspension problem where the caster is way off, so they told me to replace the right front LCA (this is a couple of weeks ago). I bought the LCA, went back to them, and they installed it. During a run at my 1st auto-x at Etown, after the new LCA, I hear a loud bang coming from the front, and the car 's handling went to sh*t and my caster is way off again, and the car can barely take right turns. So they cost $270 for nothing.
So I 'm willing to try someone new..

Its TNT in deerpark and ask for Martin or JD. Phone# is 631 254 5454 and yes, you aways need new bearings.
Actually they will go to NYR autox this week, you can talk to them directly if you are going.

Thanks for the info Kev. I 'm racing with the Mclub at Giants Stadium this Sat. (shooting for a season trophy and need the points) and I 'm not sure if I can go racing again Sunday. My wife is pretty POed from last weekend that I raced back to back Sat. & Sun.
but I was on vacation all last week and she said I could do whatever I wanted. But we all know they don't always mean what they say..

They are Acura OEM aren't they? I mean I have them now on the GSR don't I? Just need to order new ones right?
Yup, you can order them at any Acura dealers. Also you "might" need shims but you really can't tell until you take your tranny apart.

what is the official name? Differential bearings?
thanks again Kev!!
BTW, which LSD do you think handles the best out of all the ones you 've tried?

I don't know what exactly they call, just tell them they are the bearings on the diff. As for the lsds I've try, the type r and the quaife feels the same and work better for my car at autox. However the ATS is more aggressive with higher lockup percentage and you can definitely feel it right away, Chris is doing well with it. The torsen seems to work better on my car and my driving style but thats just in my case. You know how violent my car can get....
AutoX this saturday! Sweet I didn't have anything to do that day.
I saw your car this weekend Kevin but didn't run into you. Noticed you have fender flares on it now.
DRT does look pretty ghetto. But they seem to do a good job. And that's what counts so I won't put them down.
My car is at RPM right now. Very nice guys that are also very professional. Not a bad thing to say about them.
Oh, what ever you do don't go to Performance Factory. Worst experience ever. And they didn't fix my car at all. And they charged me $400. Boy was I pissed. And the owner looked like he was gonna hit me with a wrench. And he basicaly told me he didn't know me so why should he fix my car right. So you have been warned.

I really like RPM! I had my coilovers installed there. Very friendly and more professional than most others. When it comes to work, they work! When it comes to BSing they usually wait till lunch time. They charge a little more than DRT and others (wish Rampage was still open) but they seem to do good work. It's just that they misdiagnosed my caster problem and they "assumed" I had a bent LCA when I didn't, and they cost me over $200 for nothing. Suspensions is not their strong point. It's custom roll bars/cages for race cars and motors. The problem is none of those guys have ever raced. It's very hard to find a shop where the owners/mechanics are road racers or autocrossers.
rpm does great work in some respects, but does make mistakes in others.
i worked with them on some hondata tuning and the car runs great now.. however, when they had their 'helper' remove my o2 sensor, he stripped it. he didn't have a good angle on it with the wrench and tried anyway. they charged me to remove and reinstall the header to get it out. in retrospect, i should've crawled under the car and taken it out myself.
also, they were firing up a prelude with a newly installed turbo system. it immediately sounded like a diesel. shut it off, put it up on the lift. forgot the oil filter- it was running dry!
i'm not really impressed with any of the shops around here. the only truely 'professional' shop that i've ever seen personally was vermont sportscar. there's a reason why prodrive chose to work with them. too bad they're so far away.
i think the best thing to do (if you're mechanically inclined) is pick up a helms, and learn to work on your car yourself. you get to know it better and save a lot of $$$ in the long run. i tackled my quaife installation in 1 night and i've never taken a tranny apart before that..

Chris, I told you at Nasa last Sunday that Anthony wanted me to drop the car off the night before and pick it up the end of the next business day, if it's done, and he can't guarantee me it 'll be done the next day. Like I 'm going to leave my car there for several days until this guy decides to start work on it. I don't think so! Then he told me "well people leave their cars here for weeks before I can get to them"!! I told him I don't leave my car anywhere and I like to watch when work is being done on it. He insisted I drop it off. I then asked him to make an appt. and guarantee me that the car will be ready the next day. He said he can almost guarantee it but can't give his word. I told him goodbye and I 'll think about it. Now Yasu told me Sunday that Anthony is full of it and he is not that busy..
I want to make an appt., go in and get out the same day. Is that too much to ask? Anthony was just too difficult and I don't have to beg someone to take my money. Sorry I 'm the customer. There's other fish in the sea.

hope to see you next time...i'll come over and say hi.
I don't know about LSDs, but here is another alternative:
Yep, they are a race car shop with racers participating in road/autox.
http://www.hsmracing.com
Located in Long Island as well. Very good reputation for racing alignment settings and suspension works. May give them a call and find out their specialties. This shop is where most of the NYR ppl go for suspension tunning.
I know which one Chris is recommending you, they do seem more professional than others though
